New Normal?

This is such utter stupidity. We have satellites capable of pinpointing all of the fires. The issue here is lack of public spending on fire control, that is all it is. It's cheaper for the Government to let things burn than to put the fires out, that's all. And if the fires are the "new normal," here is a problem with a technological solution. How many of the "green" types would rather let things burn as a sort of inducement to revolution, rather than advocating for a technological solution to the problem? BC clearly needs its own civil defense airforce capable of dropping lots of water on lots of fires.

Is this technological solution you speak of? Pinpointing fires will not put them out.

Another snowflake spouting off, knowing little.

B.C. is enormous. Not at all like Disneyland, the kind of place where you received your thought training from.

Forest Fires are Natural

Aug 21, 2018 at 4:56pm

Fires in forests have existed for eons and are a natural and healthy part of the ecosystem of a forest. Most are allowed to burn because they don't threaten homes and are a necessary part of nature.

Put them all out and you'll have no new tree regeneration and more fuel for a fire next year, let alone the waste of water. "Ahh but there's oceans full of water" - not really great to dump seawater all that salt will muck yours ph balance of the forest. "Ahh water from lakes" nope, need that for drinking (also you don't know the ph and/or what waterborne pests and diseases may even in that too..)
It's quiet the dilemma you're right about that.
We just have to put in fire barriers and have controlled burns and for now- hope the rain comes

I don't think you realize quite how out of control we really are in a lot of regards. I mean, you think they have multi million satellites looking for FIRES? like my god, do you know how silly that sounds?

Try reading the 2003 Filmon report. Almost none of the recommendations in that report have been implemented. Reducing forest fuel buildup, properly co-ordinating emergency services so that they have the authority to respond as quickly as possible when fires break out, etc. Also we keep building new subdivisions in the midst of forests or on historically dry mountainsides in the semi-desert Okanagan. When the houses of these stupid newly arrived rich homeowners are threatened, they take firefighting resource priority over long established small rural farms and homes. But frankly, unless we begin to deal with the real issue of human overpopulation, human overconsumption and human caused climate change we are going to look back at these few weeks of smokiness as "the good old days".
