re smokers in apartment buildings

Now that my partner and I are living in a condo I can definitely relate to the number of complaints about smoking. We are vegan and are in a same sex relationship and in the processing of having a surrogate carry our child. Due to the extra expenses we cannot afford a detached home and live in a condo which we thought we could handle but there are many reasons why this place is not working for us and smoking is one of the worst. We would also prefer if our strata would ban the meat barbecues as we feel that these are generally unhealthy and the fumes are toxic. We do not smoke or drink and we have a church we attend so our preference is always clean living but we feel that if people were required to live up to these standards they would soon grow to embrace them. Non smoking neighbors are always going to get our respect but we have learned who the smokers are and we are applying some subtle social pressures to their lives as well in this building. We have to fight for our rights somehow when the rules do not change fast enough

Cigarettes? Meat bbqs? What about banning cars? Is there anything that pollutes more, kills more humans, and create more waste to be produced, and even after decommission? I have to inhale the fumes of toxic gas coming out of cars every time I walk down the street, and everywhere I go. How come people are not upset about it? Where is the social movement to erase them off our lives?

You Expect

The world to change to suit you.

"we feel that if people were REQUIRED to live up to these standards they would soon grow to embrace them. "
So let me get this straight...you require people to live up to your standards before you embrace them, yet you expect the world to embrace your lifestyle but not live up to their standards.

"but we have learned who the smokers are and we are applying some subtle social pressures to their lives"
Imagine when your neighbours figure out you're gay, what would you think if they "applied subtle social pressure" to your lives if they don't like what you are doing?

"prefer if our strata would ban the meat barbecues as we feel that these are generally unhealthy"
You try to dictate how others live but yet as being gay,you get uptight if anyone questions you being gay.

I imagine you're making enemies quite well, and I'm sure in the future when no one befriends you that you'll be on here whining about homophobia as no one accepts you in the building.

No,it's because you're a judgmental and manipulative little bitch...

Uh huh

Wow, your post is the most nauseating and sanctimonious pile of feces I’ve ever read. So much so, i think its a joke post. You are joking right? If not, and if you are actually as described, then let me tell you, i would personally make your life a living hell if you were a neighbour. On purpose. Just for fun.

I can not bloody staaaaand ‘people’ like you and i hope smoke and bbq meat fills your cheap crappy apt every day.

You sound like a bully. How in your clean living world is it ok at all to try and (how did you put it)
"apply subtle social pressures"...(a form of bullying) your having a baby great what does that have anything to do with how others choose to live. Guess what? Others have the freedom just like you, to be who you they are, they can
Eat meat, smoke and use a bloody bbq. You're living in a fantasy world if you think it's ok to even ask others to live by that expectation. You have the freedom to live how you like. Let them live how they like. It might not be what you approve of, oh well, to bad. Get an air purifier.
Keep your windows shut when they use the bbq you breath more air pollution in, walking down the side walk in a day then you ever would breathing in your neighbor bbq once or twice a week.
I really hope this confession is a joke. You actually believe that your rights as a vegan mother to be lesbian are in turmoil. Seriously!
Find somethings else to focus on that actually needs your attention. You sound like your spoiled. I am not intentionally meaning to sound like an ass. You do not have the right to tell someone to not smoke or use their meat bbq whenever they want. You are living in the wrong city if you ever want to live that clean of a life style. Those people probably worked just as hard as you to own there own home. It's there right to live how they choose. If the strata didn't have rules on the stuff prior to you moving in. That's on you and your partner for moving there in the first place. If you're so concerned with living clean that would have had to of been a mandatory item(s) for you both.
Wow!!

I was on your side for much of your post, until you started sounding like a couple of holier- than- thou little pratts.

You refer to your "clean living" lifestyle that excludes smoking and drinking, but does include attending church. You feel that "if people were required to live up to these standards they would soon grow to embrace them."
Well, I'm a gay man who's atheist and who likes a glass of wine in the evening. I like my present standards just fine, thank you. One of them is to not be a self-righteous asshole to my neighbours.

You then mention that , once you've identified the smokers (wrongdoers), you will be ".. applying some subtle social pressures to their lives as well in this building"... ???... Right. That should work well. Do you have any idea at all how much hostility you are going to provoke with behaviour like that? This is NOT going to end well for you. You may even end up getting charged with harassment.

Please MOVE. Find yourself a non-smoking building. (Just not the one I live in, hopefully.) And good luck to you both and to your kid when they're born. Good luck especially to your kid.
