Reality check

When I drive home after work, I sometimes detour through the DTES and E Hastings St. I live downtown, somewhat sheltered from the community and the struggles the locals go through on a daily basis. It's a little reality check to remind myself that my life is extremely easy compared to others. I am far from rich, but I have everything I need. A solid job, access to decent health care, a loving wife, a beautiful child and no mental health issues. If I feel like complaining because my breakfast wrap didn't come with salsa, or my coffee was too cold, I move my thoughts to the DTES residents and try to think what their complaints would be.

Trust me. Sometimes that’s exactly what they are complaining about.

How is your life easy? You work hard at a job all day and go home to help raise your child. You pay high taxes at every level to support those people on the DTES. Everything you have in life you have worked hard for and you should be proud of your achievements.
It's a lot easier to sit on your ass with your hand out expecting everybody else to support you through life.

Fellow SRW...if people only knew what it is really like down there, you wouldn’t feel sorry at all.

I get where you're coming from but those people don't need your pity. they need a lot but not that.

How do you know OP isn't on disability or something? You can still be one welfare and work a steady job. You're ignorant.
