Everyone comes here and bitches about things that their friends say. think or do. My question is - if they don't like it so much, why do they still have anything to do with these people?

This is like when someone makes a criticism of the government, there is always that one person who will say "why don't you move?"

Because they don't call their friends on that bullsh*t. They just vent here, instead.
When they socialize, they validate their friends regardless of the nonsense, as their friends do for them. The joke goes that a good friend is one that agrees with you, and the more they agree, the better they are as a friend.
One does not go against one's clique, else one may get cast out. And without a clique here, they're doomed. Like internal exile in a totalitarian state.
It's a big part of the dysfunction in this place. If society was less cliquey and isolationist, and relationships were easier to come by, people would be more honest with each other (and themselves, really), and not have to pretend and dissemble so much.
For now it's a gang/mafia mentality. Step out of line and you're as good as gone.

One by one I've cut them out of my life. I increasingly had little in common with them. Remarkably I don't miss them.
Seriously?

Are you an adult? If you are then I’m assuming that you’ve had at least some friends in your life, right? Or maybe not if you dump them every time they do something that you don’t like.
It's a Vancouver thing...

... to be passive aggressive and keep them as "friends" even though we're not their friends.
