Pizza in Van

As far as I'm concerned, Vancouver has by far the best pizzerias I've ever been to. More so than I can say about Surrey.

Yeah, but what's up with $4 slices of thin-crust pizza?!
There's a pizza affordability crisis going on.

That's adorable.
Philadelphia? Chicago? New York? Ever been? No?
If you go, ask around for the best local slice. Make sure you ask the friendlier locals, though, or they'll send you to the nearby Domino's equivalent. The best pizzeria in the hood is a point of pride, and rightly so. It will blow your mind. The best I had was a joint run by a bunch of Greeks in Germantown, the bad hood in Philly (back then), right on the border with Mt. Airy. Also best cheesesteaks, and even chicken cheesesteaks, too. Those guys have forgotten more about making amazing stuff than Van will ever know.
I haven't had pizza in probably a decade, but still, no. Vancouver doesn't rate.

Yes, the pizza places in Surrey are virtually all operated by immigrants from India. Their pizzas have cardboard crusts and cheap quality cheese that's usually burned anyway. I guess they figured that they wanted to open a business and making pizza "looks easy" so that's why they're all over the city.
I'd challenge you on the idea that Vancouver has good pizzerias. Freshslice and those other cheap shitty joints aren't good at all. Years ago, I went to one of those wood-fire oven baked pizzas in Gastown expecting to be blown away and.... meh. It was a disappointment. Too bad the pizza places here can't be more like New York, which I hear are legendary.

New York pizza varies widely! While I did have a life-changing pizza experience in Brooklyn, a lot of it is just pretty good. I mean, it is bread with melted cheese and some sauce. It is rarely going to be unrecognizably bad or amazingly great.
