Anyone who pays for a ticket at the Biltmore

I'll start this by saying that I'm old, in my 40's. But, holy shit, every single time I've come here to see an artist (tonight was Ty Segall), why the goddamned hell are people paying upwards of $30 to TALK AND TAKE PICTURES THE ENTIRE TIME, especially for a solo acoustic show?! You're not a fucking "influencer", you're not making money from your Insta-story, you're literally broadcasting the fact that you ARE NOT IN THE MOMENT by "sharing" every single goddamned song with I guess what you believe are legions of adoring fans...? Jesus Christ. And the people who talk at these shows are even worse. If you want to talk, go the fuck to a bar, how insulting to an artist to have all of these lovely small quiet moments they create be ruined by your goddamned talking and laughing and shitty bar talk. I'll continue to take my money elsewhere; smart artists have promoters who decline venues like Biltmore and Fortune for this exact reason. Ty's did him a disservice by letting the likes of you purchase tickets. Have fun building your fake-internet empires, Gen Z! I'll be smug in 20 years when you complain about the *exact same thing* of generations behind you.

Concert Goer

I agree. Why would you bother going to a concert when all you have to do is watch someone else's shitty footage on youtube?

Thank you, OP, I couldn't agree more. I'm in my 40's too and I ask myself at every show, when did it start being like this? I'm going to see Banners tonight and last time he was here, this was my exact experience, the crowd was absolutely wretched. I'm dreading what is in store for tonight because there will be even more of them as it's at a bigger venue. It is so disrespectful to the artist and disrespectful to people around who don't have money to throw around. The behaviour is mind-boggling.

It's International

I went to see Erik Truffaz in Paris and it was the same. Phone's and talking. Talking so loud it interrupted a musician playing through a amplification system. We're in an age of narcissism where everyone thinks they're more interesting than a person they've payed to see ON A STAGE!! They wouldn't be on the stage if they didn't have more to say or are more talented they you!

the best

are the pit bunnies at metal and hardcore shows that NEED to be at the front barrier/stage, screaming for attention from the lead singer, phone out, and then crying because they get crushed or kicked in the head or lose their phone. they don't want help out to safety, they want everyone to get away from them so they can do selfies with the stage in the background.

no self awareness at all.

I remember one time at The Biltmore

Perfume Genius - he actually STOPPED his set and wouldn’t play until everyone shut the damn hell up.

Artists shouldn’t have to do that!

Way to hate on an entire generation. Shitty people are shitty no matter how old they are. If you don't like people stereotyping older people maybe stop stereotyping young people too? The last part weakens your entire argument, and just outs yourself as a young people hater. Who said these people are going to broadcast that on social media? Some people just want a souvenir to remind themselves that they were there.

It’s not just concerts

Oct 27, 2018 at 3:43am

They’re everywhere! Try going out for dinner at a nice restaurant only to have one of them snapping photos constantly and talking into their phone the whole time. Go to a nice place outdoors and try to enjoy the peace of nature, and there they are, documenting it instead of just being in it. It’s one of the reasons I want to get out of here for good and go someplace out in the boonies.

i know..

a few years back I was at a concert- one fellow in our group spend the ENTIRE concert filming it on his smartphone, held up in front of him.. for hours lol.. like WTF you go to a live show to just film it with your dumb little phone, why? to watch it later? I just don't understand some people, and I try really hard to be a nice guy and not be condescending to someone like that, because I believe they are an idiot...

I agree except

Oct 28, 2018 at 3:23pm

I agree with everything you said except for the part where you claim that being in your forties is old. In my forties I could still dance all night and my friends and I went to lots of concerts. If you think you’re old now, you’re in for a real shock in 20 to 30 years lol.
