no longer criminal

Well, here we are. Legal pot. Can consume without fear of arrest. My confession is this is such a strange feeling after so long. Saw a headline that says don't throw out your old phone numbers. Legal weed expensive even before taxes. Too bad. In the haste to jump onto the money bandwagon I hope the government remembers that the traditional cannabis culture is one of compassion and fostering of good physical and mental health. WHO reports "In 2012, about 3.3 million net deaths, or 5.9% of all global deaths, were attributable to alcohol consumption.". Crazy. The 'evil weed' will now be treated with more respect, so long overdue!

One thing we need to remember...

Oct 18, 2018 at 11:46am

... is that we got to this place primarily because men who dropped out of the mainstream kept helping people, kept the supply lines open. Most people arrested for anything, drugs included, are men. They're born the brunt of every war in history, and the war on drugs is no exception.

And we need to realize that "legalization" is going to keep hammering on these men, many of whom are poor or don't fit into the school system, so growing weed was a way to be self-sufficient rather than rely on Government or work a shit job. The new laws are designed to stomp on them even harder.

So, possession of a meager 30 grams is legal---if I want to bake two batches of cookies in an afternoon, I need 60 grams, I use about 1 gram per cookie. That means I will have to go to the Government Pot Store twice, because I'm not allowed to carry more than 30 grams at a time. Do I need to go to the liquor store twice if I want to make two batches of rum punch? No, I can go into the liquor store and buy out their entire stock of rum.

I agree with OP about good mental and physical health. Do people with good mental health let other adults push them around, tell them that 31 grams of pot is illegal, or is that a sign of poor mental health and willingness to be abused?

it feels weird

to openly talk about weed at work or certain people. Sure, nothing has really changed, and you would talk about it with people that you knew were comfortable with it, but to no longer need to speak in hushed tones in public about your use feels... strange.

FACT: Urban farming (small grows) is less intense on resources than mega grows. The lower Mainland has a whole network of people that may not be able to be employed in traditonal jobs that are successful in growing pot. There is also the inevitable displacement of food farming. FACT: Prior to legalization, anyone who smokes will attest to all of the people that come out of the woodwork at parties if they find out it's available to partake. They may not have access or where to get it or at the very least just don't smoke it that often. FACT: Weed has kept this province's economics alive for decades underground or not. Here's hoping that changes to refine this process come quickly so it's good for those that need it the most. My mother used it for her remaining days to ease her advancing cancer. Peace.

Til Death Do Us Part

I don't care who knows I smoke weed. I've been open about it for years. It's a natural plant that grows from the ground. Mother nature gives us this beautiful flower and I'm not going to hide that I smoke it. If you can't deal with my life choice then we shouldn't be talking. I don't live in fear or care what other people think of me. I'm me. If you don't like me...there's always someone else who does.

I remember going to pot rallies as a teen...its awesome it finally came to something. I work with a vulnerable population and have had to hide and be afraid for a decade because a criminal record can end a career I love and have invested 6 years of education on- so, so glad that's no longer the casee

I was high before legalization
