Not me anymore

A couple of years ago I joined a coed league to meet new people and play sports for fun. But I ended up getting injured pretty bad. I had a horrible concussion, broken nose, and sprained neck. I couldn't function from the concussion for a few weeks, all I could do was lay down in a quiet dark room. Since then it feels like a part of.me died that day. I am no longer the person I use to be. I have trouble recalling memories or things that happened during the week / day. I wish I could get back to the happy person I use to be but I can't find myself. It's crazy looking back that I joined rec sports to meet new people and have fun but instead I lost me. Why do people have to be aggressive when playing rec sports, can't they just play for fun and not hurt people.

Sorry but...

I doubt anyone was trying to hurt you. You were just playing with people that are out of your league.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I also joined a rec league but quit due to some unsportsmanlike, ego tripping douche bags that ruined the games.

I play music with peopple instead. Everyone goes home a winner and no-one gets hurt. (although i did accidentally poke myself in the eye with the end of a guitar string once)

Your confession is heartbreaking.

what sport was it?

wow, for a fun co-ed league, that sounds like a pretty serious injury.. a twisted ankle, bloody nose, sure.. but that sounds along the lines of what actual competitive athletes (who know what they are getting into and are paid for it) have to deal with.

If this was the result of someone else, not you tripping over your own feet, you really should look into legal action. If it has affected your quality of life, someone should be held accountable. People shouldn't be mowing others down violently in a fun co-ed sport type environment.

you should go for damages of lost time at work/ as well as lost quality of life, as well as all medical expenses. Probably worth it to speak to a good lawyer and see what your options are. Take this A hole to the cleaners.

maybe there should be different groups

for the people who are easy-going (stoners) and those who are competitive (beer) and those who are psychotic (meth)
and then everybody else. ;)

It Takes Time

A concussion ruined my year. It didn't seem serious. I remember the day waking up and realizing I was back! It took just over a year for me. I hope the recovery is speedy for you. Until that time you will be angry, snappy, sad and a collection of other bad feels. Make sure people close to you know why because it makes a difference, people will understand. Hang in there!

That’s awful

I hope you regain some cognitive function with some time passing. Getting a concussion is a serious event. Can you get additional support somehow with a therapist or a group specialising in brain trauma?

A coed league - of what!?

Full contact roller derby? What organized community coed sport leads to injuries like the ones you're describing?
