Pot: no

There’s been a lot of coverage about pot. People getting super excited about it being legalized. As if this is a good thing and the “right” thing for the Canadian govt to do. I 100% disagree that pot should be legal, easily available and encouraged. Pot is not a high performance drug. It makes you low performing: you stop talking, you think silly thoughts, you lose your edge. All you want to do is eat Doritos and listen to music. THIS IS PRECISELY WHAT THE GOVT WANTS YOU TO BE: complacent, soft, aimless. Will you rise up to poverty, wage inequality, racism, fascism, environmental degradation when you’re stoned? No. You don’t feel pain. And you need to feel pain and anger for change. The govt wants you soft and pliable and agreeable and docile and drugged. If you think the govt is giving you the gift of marijuana legalization, you are a total accomplice in your own downfall. Any chronic pot smoker I ever met, achieved nothing for years if not decades.

Should have worked on legal clean cocaine, now that would be high performance.

I was obese throughout highschool. First year University, I got turned on to pot. I adopted a healthy lifestyle with healthy eating habits. This all happened after going through a bit of what you describe, a doritos and music phase, but now I am healthy and much happier, and instead of a few beers I like to smoke a few joints with friends once a week or so.

I guess you haven't met the chronic pot smokers I know who own their own businesses, work for the Government doing legal work, etc.

You need to realize that for certain occupations, you cannot be "out of the closet." That changes tomorrow.

Pot isn't a panacea, it's not for everyone, but anyone who supports prohibition is just...even if what you say about pot is true, that it turns people into do-nothing, go-nowhere losers, prohibition doesn't decrease usage rates. Look at tobacco. We've driven usage into the ground with education and light restriction on advertising, etc.

"you need to feel pain and anger for change"

This is one of the stupidest things I've ever read on confessions, bar none. Pain, fear and guilt are worthless. You can avoid everything those emotions lead you to avoid (or to do) using reason, and reason has the benefit of you realizing what you're doing. Angry people are not rational, anger is not some "super-duper reason," it's a bug in the machine from when we lived a very violent existence.

Go take your revolutionary socialist garbage elsewhere---once pot is legalized, we'll also see right-wing, conservative drug policy come to the front. It's not anyone's business to nanny my drug use, and I also don't owe anyone who uses drugs and has a problem any support. I'd choose to support such people through private charity, but like hell I'd let the Government steal from me to "help people."

Most people accomplish nothing so your anecdote is meaningless.

On principle, I have nothing against people twiddling their thumbs until they die. If that is what they want to do, it is stupid to have laws to ban their thumb-twiddling enhancer.

Do you...

really think that this world needs more pain and anger? People often get very moody and angry on alcohol; do you think that is... a good thing?

I've been smoking pot for 45 years. I have my own apartment, a fully paid SUV, a 7 figure bank balance that requires 6 pages of bank statement to go over every month. I'm high every day because I can afford to smoke the stuff. I don't blame pot for my lack of ambition, but living pain free certainly helps free up some mental space and that helps achieve some other goals. Btw, how are you making out with that judgment trip you seem to be on?

Thanks for your opinion, I respect it. I don’t share it. You are free to judge as you have here. Please take it to heart not to preach in the streets when this new government policy comes into play.
