The risk for workplace violence is too much for me

I am in a hard place as I enjoy working as building staff interacting with the tenants in a building in the DTES, but I hate how my employer downplays the risk for workplace violence. I have been threaten numerous times by street people and even had a needle pulled out at me and been stalked before by them. My employer is more concern about their brand and giving the tenants the false scense of security than upgrading the building's security and doing something about our safety. Calling the police is not much help and getting through VPD non-emergency at night is difficult to get a hold of. I decided that I will resign this January. I will miss the tenants, their pets, and my coworkers, but not the risk for violence.

I’ve asked for security countless times. It’s all about how much money to save. It’s getting worse...

... you're being a jerk to some of them? Not everyone can get along with everyone, especially down and outers. Rather than narcing to the Gestapo as the first post suggests, you should take your own advice, resign, get a job where you're not going to be antagonizing already marginalized people.

It's not like they have anywhere else to go, what do you want management to do, evict them? And if you have a sharp pulled on you, you call 911, not non-emergency. But given how the K-12 kids have been indoctrinated to believe in "verbal violence" and this bullshit, for all I know you're a soft-head who thinks it's "violence" if someone says "fuck off."

You sound exactly like those people who harass residents in DTES and you should be ashamed of yourself! Grow up!
