Are we Hypocrites?

We sit here and protest any petroleum pipeline through our region yet B.C.s number one commodity export is Coal we export 3 to 5 Billion dollars worth a year and it goes out of our ports of Vancouver and mainly to China. None of us are protesting Coal. Coal is the dirteist of the dirtiest of fossil fuels. Thats us baby.

The pipeline protests are bankrolled by the Americans who want to keep buying Canadian Oil at a 50% discount.

...paying attention, you’d know that concern about coal exports from BC has been a prominent issue among many residents of the province.

A “coal spill” won’t cause an environmental disaster

If a coal ship

Goes down or crashes,it's not a big event. An oil tanker however.

But yeah you're right,we should immediately cease production and lay of 28,000 people and you can pay 60% income tax and 25% sales tax to support them, yes?

Seriously

Fuck all these old ways. If we want to make this planet a more sustainable place we need to seriously stop mindlessly overindulging. I wish more people weren’t so apathetic.

It gets better

Number of barrels shipped by rail (because existing pipelines are maxed) is approaching 500,000 PER DAY.
Almost 90pct of everything supposedly recycled ends up in landfills.
BC imports a chunk of its electricity from Alberta...which is coal-powered. So the plug-in electric cars here are actually dirtier than gasoline vehicles because coal. Awkward.
Bike lanes aggravate congestion by reducing the number of vehicle lanes, increasing gridlock and therefore exhaust pollution. Because 90 percent drive internal combustion vehicles to work.
Some of the larger employers in BC are resource companies. BIG ONES.
BC is the busiest and largest coal shipping port in North America.

I just got a graphic the other day regarding per-capita carbon footprint. The US at the top, Canada almost identical. No one else comes close.
No worries, China and India will get their coal. From somewhere. The environmental devastation unleashed by the resource companies of either country would astonish these protesters.
But everybody needs electricity, so this can only continue.

Heed the cries of protest. Behold the forest of picket signs (they are recycled, no?...hmm). It's wilful ignorance, blind self-righteousness, delusion and pretense. And nothing else.

The coal we export is metallurgical coal used for making steel. Don't like coal, no problem, don't use anything made of steel.

Trans Mountain Pipeline representation is now on the Burnaby Hospital Board of Directors. This is how things which are harmful, dangerous and or oppose the will of the vast majority, get done:

"What do you want in exchange for us risking your natural habitat with exceedingly dirty crude?" Says Trans Mountain from their Texas offices. "Well..." says the BC government "How about a dozen MRI machines and a new wing on our cancer ward? And a new rink or two.".

The BC government and their pals the feds are as reprehensible as Trans Mountain. They all ride, together, in Executive Class. (...and let's throw in a month at my Whistler place, OK Larry...") Deal!

"But what about bad press", says Trans Mountain. "We don't want it to look as it in fact IS. Can you soften protests as we RAKE it in on the backs of your lakes, forests, towns and rivers?" says Trans Mountain. "Well..." says BC government, "We will provide the media with the narrative, allowing only so much information out at a time so as to appear balanced and representative. We will make sure to provide "news" that suggests we are in fact managing responsibly our greedy thirst for feeding Asian markets with black Albertan sludge. We will feature protestors roasting marshmallows on Burnaby mountain, with ridiculous exaggerated claims of their heroism ringing out as headlines. They will "feel heard" that way. Just leave it to our propaganda corps.".

Deal!

Previous writer: let us go to 60% no, 70% taxes. You know how cheap it is to eat broccoli and rice noodles? Or would you rather eat caviar out the back of your Range Rover as you holiday over a boiling planet with patches of third-growth "parks" to harken back to the days of nature in her glory?
