Why is your concern with respect to discrimination against 40-50 year olds? They are probably the wealthiest age group and the age group that basically holds all positions of power.

Ageism starts later

It also really depends on your gender. Older women are much more discriminated against than older men, and the real ageism starts at 50+ . Try having to find a new job when you’re over 50. Trust me, even if you’ve got a ton of experience behind you it can be a very uphill battle.

Looking for a job at any age can be really tough. I had a horrible time finding work in my 30s. I wonder if it really IS harder when you’re older or if it’s just that looking for a good job that won’t make you suicidal or homicidal is just really, really, really hard at any age. Also, ageism? Goes both ways. The next time some asshole in my age group (40s) or older says something shitty about The Youth of Today, I am going to get punchy

I'll probably die before then.

But I see a hell of a lot more discrimation toward younger folks, mostly from people my age and older, and I feel more sorry for young people these days than I do those my age. Goes both ways, I guess. You see what you want to see.
