Putting the X in XMAS

This year I am: -not going to the Xmas party, which means -not spending $200-300 on a cocktail dress and shoes, and -not doing my nails -not sending Xmas cards out due to the Canada Post backlog -not organizing year end lunches -not buying gifts because my partner lost their job And I am so relaxed this Xmas!!! Now I realize how overwhelming the whole season is. We’re only going to the house parties and having turkey dinners with close family. I feel so much better this December, by not partaking in the time sucking stuff.

Not envious of the people that put that much into it. Who cares?

I am going to my Xmas party, wearing a simple $20 dress, clean short nails and sending homemade cards LATE, with mini crafts or art pieces as priceless gifts

I'm so sorry you work in an industry where you'd need to buy a new dress and shoes for your holiday party. The most I've ever bought new is a pair of tights.

Yeah... I just put on a dress and shoes that I own. I don't do my nails either. I don't know why people choose the stress of doing things they don't want to do, and then complain about it.

you know it

If I could hit that upvote more than once, you know I would!

It's amazing how great it feels to check out of all the Christmas madness. It started the same for me when my partner at the time lost his job and I haven't ever felt the need to go back to gift exchanges and cards...So much happier without it.

hmm

while I agree with the idea that this season can be too stressful, it sounds like you've been doing Christmas all wrong. I show up to all the parties I go to in the same clothes as always (and no one seems to care), and try to make this season about what it should be about-love and family and fun. You can still celebrate whilst not buying into the consumerist bullshit around Christmas.

its not the dress that matters

Welcome to the chill side! Over here we are laid back and spend the holidays doing what we want to do. I personally put up a $40 tree, block off time for phone calls with family far away, make cookies, and throw a little get together for friends. My husband amd I buy each other a gift anywhere from Dec 1 to 20th and we do stockings for each other. That's it! It's so much more peaceful that way and we don't enter the new year with crazy credit card debt. Bliss!

Nobody Cares

I have worn the same dress to my company christmas party for the last 10 years and no one has ever noticed. If you think anyone cares about your nails or dress, you are wrong. Your $200 dress money you could spend on at least a dozen blankets on second hand jackets for people who are sleeping outside every night right now and actually feel good about yourself
