Translink Rudeness

I've had it. Every time a Sky train or a 99 bus is packed, the seats that are supposed to be set aside for the elderly and disabled are taken. Usually by teens. Mostly female teens. On the bleeping cell phones. Yeah, missy, I'm talking about you. You might lift your head and consider whether you really need that seat or if someone else standing right above you deserves it. A little courtesy would go a long way.

I ride the same bus and it’s always young girls. Lift their head a little to see if maybe just maybe that person needs a seat or not...

I see it happen so often where a train or bus is PACKED with people and the driver won't let more people on, but there are empty seats and people are refusing to sit down. Which leads to pass-ups. I often sit down just to get out of the way.

If you need a seat, ask for it. I'd rather people take these seats than have a crowded bus.

The other day a young girl was sitting sideways on the "elderly" seats with her feet up on one talking to her friends behind her...you could see everyone on the train mentally shaking their heads at such inconsiderate behaviour...the train wasn't super crowded but it wasn't empty either.

Yes! Thank you! If there are empty seats, sit down! Get out of the way and clear the isle! Why are people so stupid?

Tell,or ask, them to move.

Sometimes I ask elderly people if they would like to sit, or motion to seats. If they do, I will ask one of the young people to get up so the person can sit down. Okay, sometimes I tell them they need to move. Not aggressive, but firm, and I don't look like someone to be trifled with. Their behaviour is shameful and disgraceful and morally wrong in a civil society. Basic empathy isn't too much to ask for while in public spaces. I also ask/tell people to take their backpacks off, and stop leaning on the poles other people need to hang onto for safety.

We all have to share these public spaces and can have an influence if we choose to.

k but maybe keep in mind that that person u think should get up could actually be invisibly disabled. I know I don't "look" disabled but those seats are there to make my commute not just easier, but possible.

Call them out

At first firmly and directly. If they don't show respect and take the hint, then you can rudely shame them. If you don't do this, they won't learn.
