i don't know what a hipster is

this label is so pervasive in our society and often carries a note of disdain/condemnation, but is there any clear definition? is a guy with a beard/fitted pants/leather boots a hipster? is a person who wears wide-legged flood pants and skate shoes a hipster? is someone a hipster for dying their hair or wearing a beanie? do you reckon 'they' all only listen to a certain type of music, or share specific pastimes? so many different styles and tastes get shoved under this one misnomer. it seems like a word that is simply used to describe "someone who makes me uncomfortable because they don't dress like me and my friends".

It's basically someone that thinks they are cool edgy and different but is really just like everyone else and gets all their musical knowledge from Pitchfork.

confession. Hipsters suck.

Oh, the irony

Someone who lives ironically.
It's very simple. They would even breathe pretentiously and ironically, if they could. Style over substance, fashion is life, everything is a statement, "woke" as hell... Basically, Goop's target market.
The sort of people who decreed that the Trump campaign's MAGA caps were a must-have fashion item, and paid money to get them.
Think about that. They gave money to a douche that didn't need it. They're like a self-identified class of douchebags.
I can't despise them enough. Pretentious, snobbish hypocrites that buy expensive shiny fashion items and then complain about how broke they are, because "the man" is keeping them down. The kind that joins women's marches to get laid. They're basically bros, but with some class and more complex, intellectualized douchebaggery. Instead of stuff like Affliction, Natty and cheap bongs, you see stuff like Supreme, artisanal gin or maybe PBR, hookahs and vaping.
Clearly, it works, else there wouldn't be so any of them and this stupidity wouldn't have lasted so long.

Hipster is an old word from the ‘30s that is ever-changing

“A person who follows the latest trends and fashions, especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream.”

It’s always going to mean something different, because what “hipsters” wear now will eventually become mainstream. Beards, leather boots, and indie bands are mainstream now, but they were “hipster gear” years ago.

It's just a pejorative term to dismiss someone who is artistically inclined.

Sorry hipster. If you have to ask the answer is yes. Now go trim your beard and roll up the hem of your skinny jeans.

a hipster

is someone younger, cooler and better dressed than the person using the word hipster

I always thought

Jan 17, 2019 at 3:02pm

It meant someone who tried to look well travelled but I thought no it's just a person who is relevant and "hip". I think people who complain about those kinds of people are bitter because they're boring and can't relate.

Yeah, a hipster is anyone who's a threat to a certain type of insecure and scared person. 30 years ago this insecure and scared person would of went around using the word f#g or h#mo but know they can't get away with it anymore in public. Can you imagine going through life so insecure and scared? Such a wasted existence. Stop oppressing other's because you can't be the person you really are.

i dunno

...haven't seen once since the renovictions

I first heard the term in a song written in 1969, so it's been in use for a while.
