I grew up in a Middle Class family in the 70's-80's.

We hardly ever ate out or bought take out food..that was a luxury. So yes young people need to get their priorities straight and spend more wisely. We ate Boloney not avocado toast!

LOL. When I was in University, I had to pay 100% of all my costs including living. Had maybe $1.00 for food. No cell phone bills, luxury coffees every morning. Real life, not caught in a rat race of consumerism. I was the happiest I have ever been!! Truly free.

Damn avocados! Let's build a wall so no more avocados can drain the resources of our citizens.

Fox news watcher clings on to conservative American meme. Pathetic.

Boomers can't spell bologna, because when they grew up being an entitled idiot was enough to get you a house and a job for life

Avocado Toast

My grandparents bought their first home in Vancouver for under 6k. It's now worth almost 2mm. How many avocados is that at $1.50 each? Keep enjoying your overpriced hunk of dirt. And let me have my damn avocado. It's cheaper than a mortgage and allows me to save to pay for all the smoking, obesity and heart disease of the boomers.

Truth!

I think one of the problems facing society now is that expectations of what everyone “has to” have are out of whack with the average person’s reach salary-wise. Kids expect to have everything that they’ve enjoyed while being supported by their parents, as soon as they move out on their own. Electronics, nice furniture, nice clothes, lots of money for entertainment/meals out, nice car, etc. When we left home in the 70’s we were lucky to have a bed and dresser. We shared places; often several of us in one place. We took the bus, we basically had to earn everything we had. It was normal, and I don’t recall anyone being upset about it. What’s “normal” now places so much more pressure on young people because they’re comparing themselves to other people who seem to have everything. They need to remember that those people often also have a huge amount of debt.

Yep, our biggest problem is that we buy avocados. Killin our futures with a fruit vegetable. You. Don’t. Get. It.

How dare young people want to eat healthy food, or at all! When I was a kid, it was macaroni and cheese with sometimes some hamburger thrown in for fun! And our heat got cut off plenty of times, and I went without food in Uni for whole days sometimes, and, and, and...

F*ck that. Seriously. I’m happy eating beans in between paycheques once in a while, because the money I spent was on experiences that I’ll treasure. This whole “back in MY day, we did things RIGHT” is boring and tiresome. Don’t listen to the curmudgeons! Experience life, kiddos! That’s what it’s here for!
