The software I use on a daily basis was developed originally for military applications.

Regardless who invented it, all technology can be used to help or to hurt. ie. when our ancestors learnt how to control fire it was used both for beneficial creature comforts but as well, it was sometimes used by arsonists. I suggest keep positive in your own life, spread love rather than fear. Be the change you want to see in the world and when enough of our human race gets that, then we will hit critical mass for the upset of our society towards Truth, Beauty & Goodness
So what?

You scored some of that software they had to tell POTUS about because it was compromised "Hey they cracked it again Mr. President . Yup... no .. no ah Russia this time " I really love that stuff cheap, easy and completely vulnerable! I bought some down under the floor, where black thru to White hang out, I've had the FSB trying to get me to take a hot Russian wife ever since. I almost hated that I had to tell them I was in talks with China already.

MIT, AT&T Bell Labs, and GE.
Three historically major players in military technology, who developed the predecessor to Unix over 50 years ago. Which was in turn based on ideas dating back to the technologies developed for WWII, where computation was used by everyone who could get some, directly for war purposes.
Unix, its derivatives and related ideas that came from its development run every system in every device we have today, and have therefore seen use in wars.
This includes all Windows versions (related tech), iOS (related tech) and Mac OS X (based directly on Unix through NeXT), and Android/Linux (also all embedded systems).
Everything to do with every aspect of current tech was developed by a military contractor or a related project, and there are very, very few exceptions. I can't think of one and I challenge anyone here to do so. Over 40 percent of the US economy is tied to the DoD in some way. This figure is disputed. By other accounting, it's about 60 percent.
No way to keep your hands clean, and live.

Also, GPS still IS mainly dedicated to military. They can turn off access to civilians with the flip of a switch.
