Sizzlers..I Miss Sizzlers

Was on Lougheed just west of Willingdon, twenty years ago. The salad bar had probably 70 things to choose from: salads and topping of all sorts, the usual beans and veggies, jello salads, potato and macaroni salads of all sorts-was a meal all in itself. $7 Could get a big steak, all you can eat shrimp plus the unlimited salad bar for $12. Or for $15 you could do the rest. They had an Italian food station, with fettucini alfredo, spaghetti and meat balls, all the pastas, and about 5 different sauces. The Asian station was awesome too, they had about 8 types of maki sushi, miso soup, and a good amount of the usual Chinese buffet foods. My favourite was the Mexican food area: tortillas and tacos, and taco chips-with the sauces, chicken and ground beef, Mexican rice, shredded cheeses and cheese sauce, and pepper selection you could make crazy tortillas, tacos and nachos. Hamburger and hot dog section was crazy awesome, plus roast beef and potatoes. The dessert section had ice cream machines,10 flavours of ice cream, pies, cakes, all kinds of sprinkles, etc. Don't forget the pop and juice dispenser. Anyways,I lived nearby and went there 2 or 3 times a week. Never bought groceries,I'd just stuff myself and it would carry me over till the next visit with minor snacking in between. Went travelling for a year in '01,came back and it had closed down.

Loved it. Also loved the buffet at Broadway and Commercial, and, I don't care why they closed down, Foody Goody!

I dunno if the City proper has any Sizzler-like buffets left, the best you can do is cross Boundary and go to Uncle Willy's.

I hate it when places I really like shut down. Unfortunately, all this city seems to have now is sushi restaurants and coffee shops.

and remember that place.

I also miss the Bonanza restaurant that used to be in New West; it put Uncle Willy's (aka Uncle Crappy's) to shame.

@ I went there
Well then we probably fought over the refried beans lol.
Foody was OK but I got a gut blaster from them and never went back.
There was the Grand Buffet on Kingsway past Metrotown, went in there once and it was dirty and dusty as hell with carpets that looked like a herd of buffalo had run through. And all the steam trays were cold. Never ate. They went broke,no wonder.

Bonanzas were all over: Kelowna,Vernon,Kamloops and they also had the steak and all you can eat shrimp deals.

There's that new Indian place in Surrey with 500 items:but I can't scarf it back as well as I used to,and it's a long drive.

I remember the great buffets of old. In Calgary there was a place that was rumoured to have bought leftover food from other restaurants. Maybe its better that they all closed.

All of the kids growing up in Vancouver will be puny weaklings without weekly trips to the Sizzler.

I miss...
