All these years later

Many years ago I got caught in the rain in a dress and no jacket. While crossing the street a stranger gave me his umbrella. “Keep it. You need it more than I do,” he said, as we walked across the crosswalk and then parted ways. All these years later I still think about that moment. Oh by the way this occurred at St. Lawrence market in Toronto. That kind of kindness isn’t observed here in Vancouver. #fucky’all

$100,000 that no women has ever given a man her umbrella.
Taking advantage of her privilege, the OP expects it to happen here all the time.

I don't live in Vancouver anymore. But several years ago, I was walking close to Joyce skytrain station. Two men stopped me, and asked if I wanted an umbrella. I was carrying an umbrella myself so I was confused. Apparently, they had an extra umbrella, and decided to give it to the first person they met. It was a brand new, high quality umbrella. I still don't understand to this day why they wanted to get rid of it. The point of the story is that there are generous and kind people everywhere. I witnessed multiple acts of kindness when I lived in Vancouver. There is really no need to bash Vancouver when recounting something that should be a feel-good inspirational story. Too bad the ending of your post ruined it.

People are indivduals, not representatives of their race, gender, religion, or current location.

It’s happened to me so many times in this rainy city, I can’t tell you. Someone covering you with an umbrella, giving you an umbrella. I have sweet stories about this since I was a child. Maybe you are young and from back east?

Not true

On my way to an interview in downtown Vancouver I hesitated by a curb ready to cross the street. It had been snowing and there was a pile of snow and a lake of water in front of me. I was thinking , well I can stand in the puddle in my nice boots and interview attire or I can take a chance and jump. A man's hand reached out to take mine and he said nothing. He just smiled and we both took a wide stride to cross the puddle. He let go as he walked ahead of me on the crosswalk. I never saw him again and didn't get the chance to thank him. I got the job, best one I've ever had. That was 4 years ago. Today I helped an elderly gentlemen to his feet when he stumbled. I've been paying it forward for so long now that I don't understand why people say Vancouver is unfriendly. Sometimes you need to reach out and help someone without asking. It will come back to you eventually.
