I propose a statute of limitations on idiocy. I never wore black-face, or donned a white sheet and hood, even for a yearbook photo. But god knows I did some incredibly stupid things when I was young, and just about everyone else probably did, too. I'm not talking about redemption here, just a little reasonable slack-cutting for our past indiscretions.

Couldn't agree more. However, a statute of limitations needs a clear, finite period not individual timelines. So 10 years? 15? 20?

We can't punish people for not knowing better that far back when we didn't expect it form ourselves back then. I think any crap after groundbreaking public movements trashing shitty ideologies and behaviors that are anti humanity should be the time border. Any actions and words after are inexcusable.
Is that fair?

It’s just getting stupid. Things people did before the pc “cultural appropriation” stuff came into play! I’d be guilty because I once wore a hallowe’en costume as a native princess, about 35 years ago. Seriously, give it a rest people!

People are getting flamed for stuff that happened twenty, thirty years ago already without proof so that is a bad idea because whom decides what is above the line and what is below will not be in our best interests.

While I don't condone doing stupid or illegal things at least growing up we were smart enough to not document it and spread it around for everyone to see. The rare photo is a single physical copy lost in storage or a camcorder tape that the majority of the world would be unable to play now.

Today everything has to go online for clout, and it's going to haunt them forever, impacting far more people than a random celeb or politician with a bad yearbook photo.
