I wish Vancouver (and the world) would ban all restaurants from using

Styrofoam and plastic containers/cutlery already.
Seriously, talk about needing to implement carbon taxes!! Restaurants who continue to use them should be charged a carbon tax. And restaurants who use compostable containers should get a tax rebate.
Styrofoam doesn't disintegrate for 500 years. Did you just read that? Did you absorb that? 500 years. So maybe 20 people on my little block alone are ordering take-out on any given night, let alone the whole city, province, country, world...add it up people.

You notice how restaurants go out of business all the time? There's maybe a 5-10 percent survival rate over any 5yr period.
I used to know a guy in the restaurant business. Greek place, amazing food, reasonable prices. Talked to him and his dad a lot. His father ran restaurants in a couple of very different countries for 40 years. It's an unbelievably tough and stressful line to be in. This guy sold his place. He finds working 60hr weeks, selling insurance and investments, relaxing.
Food vendors will make the switch to recyclables when it's economical, and not before. They can't afford to do otherwise. Their margins don't allow it.
And if you think you can get the world to agree on banning anything, when most countries still burn coal for electricity (yes, Canada, too)... Styrofoam doesn't rate.

You might want to read up on Vancouver's 2020 plans and see if your "wish" hasn't already been addressed by council.
I try

to bring my own container to restaurants and they refuse!
Styrofoam...

CAN be recycled. Completely. All it takes is a quick search to confirm this. Why don't we do more of that? It's beyond me.

Carbon tax is BULLSHIT. It's just the governments way to get more money from us. Carbon is GOOD for the planet. Humans exhale carbon dioxide. With your logic I should be taxed as a human. Oh wait, I AM!

And for 500 years it poisoned his mind.
