Pregnant and pissed!

I'm 6 months pregnant and commute by skytrain every day for work. I've been absolutely appalled by people's lack of etiquette in offering a visibly pregnant woman their seat. I would say 1 in 10 offer me their seats, the others pretend they're sleeping/ watch Netflix or play games on their phone/ avoid any eye contact with me. I shouldn't have to ask! Of course I want your seat- my back hurts from carrying a human around 24/7 and I'm effing tired. Come on people, bring back common decency before I lose my mind!

Has been mentioned on a previous post about public transit etiquette but maybe try asking someone for a seat next time?

Was on crutches

Due to torn ligaments in my knee, and bad back injuries for 2 months-same thing. I'd just tell any teenage girls to move.

do not have a clue about etiquette or how bout just plain decency and manners.
I see this kind of selfish behavior every day on Skytrain, seniors, pregnant ladies, disabled folks not being offered seats.
WTF??

please ask

I'm a woman, and I have stopped automatically offering people a seat, because so many people have snapped at me because they're offended that I asked. I'm not sure how pregnant you look, but it isn't always obvious. :)

So if you need a seat, just ask someone. Also, don't forget that just because someone looks like they are fine, they might have a less visible reason that they need to sit (visual impairment, vertigo, multiple sclerosis, etc.).

I appreciate needing a seat

But pregnancy doesn’t count unless you’re huge. I’ve known pregnant women that do crazy workouts and stay super fit by walking everywhere and they’re fine. In fact, the baby will be healthier and so will you. You’ll lose the baby weight faster if you keep in shape. You’re also likely to have an easier time during childbirth if your muscles are strong. Pregnancy isn’t an injury. Stop treating it like some kind of disease. It’s a basic human function. Get over it. PS. I’m a woman with 4 kids!

I'd give ya my seat

Gladly I would give up my seat to anyone that needs it but I have to agree it's on you to ask to many people would get pissy about being offered a seat that most wouldn't just offer it up. Do your part ask for what you need and you'll find people will oblige.

I would never assume anyone is pregnant. Five months pregnant in February could look like me, also female, but with severe indigestion/bloat. Or, you could be like the acquaintance I knew who was fat and I couldn’t tell the difference between her not-pregnant body and her actually-pregnant body. (Seriously, some women just don’t show).

You want something? You ask for it. You are nuts for expecting people to read your mind.

Not the centre of the universe.

Get over yourself. As others have said, open your mouth.

I made the mistake

of asking a woman how far along she was and she actually wasn't pregnant. Turns out some have mid month bloating etc.

Unfortunately, nobody cares that you’re pregnant at all
