Whats wrong here

Today I attended a high school sporting event. As someone without a family or children it seemed, strange, not odd, but strangely interesting just how much "sports" seems to consume peoples lives. When travelling or reading the world news I see all sorts of things that need to be fixed. The fix needs to come from the everyone and it needs to happen now. We need to set and example for kids and we need them to learn to be leaders today. The problems we're facing in the world, (where consumerism and status it at an all time high) is the majority of people as just looking for satisfying distractions in life. Why are we bring up our kids to "have fun, play team sports, going to malls etc etc. Why are we, old and young all not working together to fix these problems we have created. Why are take-out containers still around and acceptable? Don't get me started on plastic waste, or fast fashion, or how soon we won't be able to grow real food. No, no, no. Some people say, kids need to be kids, bullshit. We don't have time for that now. Everyone, myself included have failed at being a good human and nurturing this world instead of destroying it. All just so life can be easy, carefree and so we can have stuff. oh, and team sports on weekends.

Bread. Circuses. Sound familiar?
The world has moved on but the humans are pretty much the same. We have failed to structure our governance to account for human nature, which is as beastly as it ever was. The failure is wilful because to do even the most basic right thing is, like, hard. And nobody likes difficult things. As a species, we have more conscience than cats, but not quite as much as dogs.
Your expectations are unreasonable.

Gee you realize you don't sound like the kind of "Team Player" needed to tackle all the problems you mention right?

You're...

... paranoid. The reason that the left is now attaching "12 year's and we're all dead" paranoia fantasies to stuff is that they've done the demographic research. If they don't impose some sort of "permanent revolutionary government" under the guise of climate change.

The world is fine.

We'll be here in Canada for another 500 years or more.

Playing sports is good for kids---nothing worse than growing up not playing sports, you don't learn about teamwork, sportmanship, etc.

Great post

Team sports teach kids to work together for a common goal, and there's no room for selfishness as you can't really be a one-man team. Some people take it too far but let's not make the world's troubles about something that builds social skills and raises self esteem. Worried about the environment? Sorry to say we're a bit screwed beyond belief and big industrial changes (major shifts in energy sources) are the only ways to remedy the damage we've done, and even then we're kinda still screwed. Let's enjoy being humans while we can, teach our children well (work together), and cut back on our bad habits.

This is the outcome when adults cease having children, fail to properly grow up, and spend their time criticizing normal pursuits which they themselves know nothing about.

Damn

There’s nothing wrong with sports. In fact, people who enjoy sports and fitness learn valueable life lessons like discipline and self motivation. They also tend to be people who are better off and actually enjoy life, unlike yourself.
You must be super unhappy to have such a dark pessimistic outlook. Sports might help.

Oh wow

These “satisfying distractions” be what they may for any individual, are what make me not want to blow my brains out. Life can be a long and cruel ride sometimes.

Interesting

A lot of the comments here seem to be from people who love team sports. lol. Most of the people I know who are changing the world or are being accountable for what's happening are not goons cheering on the sidelines or pressuring their kid to be a "team player" lol thats funny. No, they are people that chase peaks in one form or another.
