I used to be...

..one of those people that complained about the cost of living and the social dynamic of Vancouver. I was blinded by my love of this city to notice what I was giving up for the privilege of living here. Now that I have left, I am appreciative that I had the fortunate luck of living in one of the WORLD's best cities for over 10 years. To the people that are worried about the future, enjoy the now, take a deep breath and realize while you may not get the chance to enjoy Vancouver for the rest of your life, you are one of the lucky that at least experienced it. As for me, I found a city with amazing food, culture, some of the best snowboarding there is, and it is a fraction of the cost....but I'll never say where :)

There is a reason people are coming here from all over the world and if you've traveled a lot you can see why. It's expensive but most cities in the world are expensive these days.

I can guess

I left Vancouver also but have never missed it. If you tell me your new city, I'll tell you mine. ;)

I’d leave too

....but I can’t because I’m too connected with the people I love that are here. I just can’t imagine being so far away from my kids and grandchildren, and I know that they wouldn’t be able to afford to come to me, so I’ll be here until I’m gone. I’ll be flat broke, but I’ll be here.

People from all over China want to live here to hide their money from their government. A major correction needs to happen with Vancouver's cost of living. It's a lower second tier city with a middle first tier cost of living. Please don't compare Vancouver to Paris, Tokyo, Rome or New York. That would be lunacy.

But I’ve already lived in numerous other cheaper and better cities. Waiting for some sort of freedom of movement for commonwealth countries so I d go back to Australia and never return to Canada.

Have you been to Tokyo?

Sit on the the train and see how many of them look "happy" to be living in Tokyo. They work day and night and have no time to do anything in order to live in Tokyo.

Check out the suicide statistics and birth rates in Japan and perhaps you will realize you have it better here in Vancouver.

You should read up on it.
