Vegetable oil...

... has been found to be way more harmful, specifically the omega6 fatty acids. The government "adequate intake" of over 10g daily on a 2000 calorie diet is likely 5-10x the biological requirement, according to some research.

Since the introduction of these vegetable oils, the motivation has been profit, and the view that they're "heart healthy" is likely just industry-sponsored PR. Remember, that oxycontin stuff that industry promoted? Same deal with vegetable oil, you shovel a few million in grant money to a few copacetic doctors and boom, you have the justification for your money-making scheme.

Correlation isn't causation, but IMO the rise in heart disease parallels the rise in consumption of vegetable oil.

Seriously?
Alcohol is a conclusively proven carcinogen. Yet there are overwhelmingly more booze shops than bookstores.
Which says a lot about society - ignorance, oblivion and impulsiveness are valuable, curiosity and learning not so much.
Tobacco kills half of its users. Yet every convenience store sells cigarettes.
High property prices lead to poverty and socioeconomic inequality for the majority. Yet there are growing calls to stop them from falling.
BECAUSE THERE IS MONEY IN IT. And nobody cares about your health, happiness or well-being. Especially not the medical-pharma industry, because if you're healthy, you're not a customer.
The food business will use the cheapest additives and other inputs available. Always.
Same as any business, because that's the nature of business and has been since trade was invented. Unfortunately, government is even worse: ethics? poverty reduction? environment? how's that pipeline working out?
At least with business, you can vote with your wallet and it works. They'll happily oblige if you pay them.
It's not hard to buy low-preservative products now. Celery juice or similar is often used instead.

It is a mystery.

P.S.: This is not a confession at all.

Ironically

All you hear about is bacon etc is full of nitrites and we should avoid it at all costs. But the truth is that nitrites are in many things and in fact 85% of the nitrites we consume come from vegetables and chicken, beef, fish and milk/cheese.

They can also make numbers seem worse than what they really are. For example if you eat lots of bacon etc your chances of getting cancer go up by 18%. Sounds terrible, but all that means is your chances of getting cancer go from 5% up to 5.8%.

Need I say more?

Because of corporate greed, lobbyists, and pay offs.

Oh please! Bookstores are a thing of the past. You can download an entire bookstore, or buy a hardcover online. You can't download and 3D print yourself a cold glacier fresh brewed in the Rockies Kokanee beer. You need a liquor store close by.

Isn't it obvious?

So,
(1) Bookstores clearly not your speed. You didn't even read what I wrote, and the bookstore experience would be lost on you,
and also
(2) Ick. Even before I stopped booze completely, it was strictly high-end Anejo tequila and triple-distilled-or-better vodka.
Beer is a waste of calories, water, energy, effort, money, etcetera.

I think you watched too much of that show "Frasier" staring Kelsey Grammer. You sound like the anal retentive snob, that he played.
Be a real down to earth Canadian, and drink the beer that's brewed out here.
