What if

I am 34. Many people my age have kids, mortgages, car payments, etc. Sometimes I think about if I would want to have a family. But I don't think very long about it, because even if I did want one I don't think I could afford it. So when the question comes up about settling down and having kids, I sort of see it as irrelevant. I'm just trying to make sure I have the rent, one month at a time.

You’re not alone. I’m going to be 34 six months from now and even though I’m saving up,
I’m still taking one day at a time. Take each day as it comes and don’t worry about rushing to start a family. It’ll come naturally. I guess love and marriage comes when you stop looking so much. That’s just my two cents. Keep your chin up and enjoy life while it lasts.

The OP has made my morning! Finally someone with common sense!
I also don't have a lot of money. But there is no way I'm falling into the debt trap. Because that is exactly what it is a TRAP, To make sure you can never have the freedom to do what you like. With large debts and family, no one gets to live the lifestyle they want.

... financial genocide. Don't worry, tho, Canada can always bring in immigrants to replace the population that is now breeding at below-replacement levels. What are you, some kind of racist who thinks the Government should have policies that help you reproduce instead of replacing you and the kids you would have had under a decent Government with immigrants?

Sorry friends - it's not going to come naturally. If you don't want to wake up at 50 - alone, and still broke - make a plan! Set some goals! But yeah...trying to stay out of debt should be one of them...
