Yup, I did this today

I was getting on the bus and immediately heard an extremely loud male voice. Paid my fare and spotted the culprit about halfway down the aisle ranting and waving his arms as he let loose into his phone. I walked up to him, didn't say a word, leaned over, raised my finger to my mouth and gave him a "SHHHHHHHHH" His seatmate laughed out load and a few others gave me a round of applause. Oh, and the loud talker lowered his volume. Feel good about diffusing a loudmouth without saying a word.

... to bully someone into silence, eh?

You're just a little punk. Good thing he was submissive, didn't want to fight with you trying to be his Daddy.

you feel good embarrassing someone. It's either an ego/power trip for you or you're just a self-righteous person.

And...

.... Everyone stood up and clapped and the bus driver high fived me and gave me my fare back and said "you're free anytime on the #9"...

Cool story.

Congratulations

like you did it mainly to shame him. It's just an ego-trip for you. Or you're very self-righteous.

Good for you for having the initiative to teach that loud mouthed man child to quiet down a bit with your kindergarten teacher method. I'm quite sure that everyone on that bus appreciated you for at least the rest of their day! In public we all need to be more concious about the people around us and guaranteed there's people that have had rougher days at work or home or wherever than ourselves. Kudos to you my dear! Just a word of caution though, be prepared to potentially verbally and/or physically assaulted when you do this because you never know who you're shushing. Just saying....be ready for the repercussions.
