Bring Riverview back

People who are mentally ill need Riverview Hospital back. At least they had a roof over their heads until Gordon Campbell came along and basically shut it down. Now these people have nowhere to go except out and about wasting police resources dealing with their bullshit.

SO MUCH mental illness

In the Lower Mainland.
Folks running around screaming at no one, harassing strangers, scaring the crap out of children and adults alike.
As you say, at least Riverview provided three hits and a cot for these ill folks.

You're right ... it is an outrageous

default on the part of our society to abandon the afflicted to the ravages of homelessness. These poor folks are all someone's children and we are supposed to be one human family - BUT - hopefully we can do better than the previous pathetic Riverview 'Cuckoo's Nest' model. ............... Although they are a minority school of medical science, there are plenty of practitioners now days who advocate treating the root causes of societal dysfunction - rather than Nurse Rat-Sh*tting the afflicted with pharma poison$. Suggest, for starts, net search the names: Abraham Hoffer; Abraham Maslow; Dr. Peter Kinderman (past president of the UK Psychology Association and now current Psychology Department Head at U. of Liverpool England ................. Forever Jung

So, so true

They really, really screwed people over there. Just basically chucked them on the street. Absolutely heartless, deplorable act... they have excuses.... none of them are valid.

Shut in the 90s

You are very right. They also are not safe on the street and really want somewhere they can feel protected. The shelters are just not the right place for them. And the police are getting tired because they are mental health workers.

So, after all you liberals protested for that place to be shut down since it wasn't a crime to be mentally ill, and all those patients had the right to be free, homeless and to suffer on the streets with dignity, you all want to bring it back now?

The construction of a provincially-funded $101 million mental health and addiction treatment facility on the Riverview grounds began in 2017 and will open its doors in 2019.

I never have and never will vote for those cold hearted arrogant greedy BC Liberals, more accurately Neo Conservatives.

Good to know

Let’s hope that the new mental health & addictions treatment centre will try to help make a difference.
