Flowers!

I am one of these stop and smell the flowers kind of guys. And I confess that when I stop to smell flowers now, I don't smell anything. Is there a place in Vancouver that I can actually smell the scent of a great flower or am I doomed to not have that in Vancity?!

Learn your flowers so you won't be disappointed. Roses are a sure winner. So are lilacs, wisteria, cherry and plum blossoms, the purple flowers on African trees (called Jacaranda) here and there around town that you can smell better from a distance than up close and those little cluster blue grainy things on bushes (no idea what they're called but they smell like dusty blueberries and are for butterflies and bees to eat). Others are more visually ornamental and annoyingly scentless, like azaleas, pansies, daisies. Chestnut trees have flowers that are super faint and delicate, so when they bloom you're better being downwind to catch these. Some bushes have tiny flowers in the spring that give an amazing scent. Any others, readers?

The flower garden between the Stanley Park golf course and Lost Lagoon. It's powerfully aromatic at this time of year as it is in full bloom. Try it early in the morning or evening when there is less wind happening. You'll be impressed.

there are roses all along E 8th between commercial and woodland that I stop and smell daily. And lilac along the path that runs down Maclean to Clark.

Roses with "eyes" usalu have more scent than the hybrid varieties. Check out van Dusen for great scents too. The Staley Park Rose Garden has many that smell. Good luck!

Was one of my favorite places to feel the acute absence of you and the utter absurdity of going all the way out there just to wander around lost and loney
