I've seen a couple of retirement postings here recently

and I just want to give folks some really positive news.
Hang in there!
I've been retired for a year and it's awesome:
- after years of anti-depressants I no longer take them and feel great
- after years of self-medicating with alcohol I no longer WANT to drink
- after years of wondering why I was the odd person at work who actually took pride in his work I now realize it was my lazy, toxic co-workers who I allowed to infect my head
- I now hang out with awesome, supportive friends and am living the dream.
Hang in there folks, it gets better!

I spent my 20s and 30s doing (nearly) whatever I wanted but now I'm in my 40's I don't have the energy/friends/inclination to do that stuff.
Enjoy life when you are young, don't wait until you are old.
It's not as enjoyable when you don't have your health.
Thank you!

Really grateful for your positive vibes. I myself am saving up as much as I could until I retire early in the sun.

I think it's less to do with retirement and more of getting out of a toxic environment. I had a horrible time in graduate school in Vancouver. After finishing the degree and leaving I found it easy to give up drinking. I was able to sleep again, and an eye twitch stopped that I had developed whenever someone said something stupid (basically every moment in grad school for 2 years).
I decided..

When I was 30 to not "hang in there" any longer. 30 more years of that, nope. So I will NEVER retire, BUT I work where and when I want. I don't have tons of cash or a retirement fund but EVERY SINGLE DAY I do what I want. We all get a choice and I choose life!

but life is no better. Caring for an adult child with a chronic illness as I get more tired. No spare money. I think it was easier leaving to go to work.
Way To Go
