There was no parking on my street because of all the people who drove to Car-free day.

I used to think car-free day was kind of cool but now it just represents The Rude Cyclists Of Vancouver to me. We've created a monster.

Headline from ThinkProgress: 'More electric cars means more destructive mining'
From Salon: 'Lithium mining for "green" electric cars is leaving a stain on the planet.'
And they didn't even touch on the rest of the supply chain. Let alone end-of-life, disposal and recycling. Transmission costs, intermediate energy losses, logistical overhead, manufacturing...
Both are obviously very liberal voices. I love this, because it lays bare the lie of environmental ideological purity and the coming 'green utopia'. Especially the ridiculous platitude of "ya gotta start somewhere". Delusional nonsense.
Reminds me of an old joke, about a bloke lost in the countryside. He stops near a local and asks how to get to the city. The response goes like, "if I was trying to find my way there, I wouldn't start here."
Car Free Day, hah.
Maybe if they banned private-owner-operated non-hire autos and only allowed personal motorcycles, jitneys and similar. Maybe then. Don't hold your breath.

That and a fiver will get me a latte.
"Cleverness is like bagpipes -- a hellish screech that only sounds good to the one making it." Not sure where that's from, but the best version I've seen is on Oglaf (NSFW), written (ironically) by a supremely clever Australian woman.
Also, I'm not the one coming up with these things. All the facts are sourced from people far more knowledgeable.
Having said all that, the usefulness of truth is...complicated.

Not an oxymoron

More of a paradox, or just plain irony.
