Volunteering

I started volunteering with a City owned non-profit last year. I'm professionally employed full time, so I wanted a position in the background. Unfortunately, none were available so I did the front facing job that requires shifts of 4-6 hours. I was recently advised this year the volunteer roles I had wanted to apply for went to UBC co-op students.
I love the organization, but the 4-6 hour shifts dealing with the public even once a month are killer. I asked the volunteer coordinator to consider 2 hour shifts, but was declined.
I feel like they don't value my time at all, and am thinking I will have to quit because I don't feel I can meet their time committments.
This is why organizations only have high school students and retirees as volunteers.

Lots of places to volunteer. Find a place that respects you and your time and dive in.

... no such thing as a volunteer in BC except for very narrow exemptions in the employment standards acts for volunteer firefighters.

Here I thought it was just rampant ageism. Oh, wait, it still might be, just cleverly designed to appear otherwise
That’s really nice of you

to donate your spare time like that especially in such an expensive city like Vancouver. But since you are volunteering I’d take full advantage of you too as your free labour. That’s why high school & seniors volunteer, they’re not employable as they’re only good at volunteering. Stop whining and try for a real job next time. If you get pay whine, if you volunteer bang head against wall.

Try working for one that psychologically terrorizes and stalks you online to provoke a nervous breakdown.
