Bus fare

I called in sick today because I couldn't afford the bus fare to get to work!!! It's 2 zones so would have been close to $10.00. Wtf.

Only because I hate translink. First thought was thumbs down because of your poor handle on your finances. You work but don’t have $10? You better have a good reason

If you get paid more than $10 for one day of work, it would still have been better for you to go than to stay home. Also, you should consider paying for a monthly pass or at least buy tickets in bulk to save money and not be caught without any means to travel. If you call in sick too often, you run the risk of losing the job too...

Do you earn $10/day working? Probably not. You basically lost a whole day’s wages because you don’t have $10 for bus fare. Doesn’t make sense. If you knew you were going to work, you didn’t set aside commuting money?

Next time ask the Bus Driver for a fare deferral receipt. ( look it up )
That will give you time to pay and you will be able to get to work without worrying about being hassled for not having a valid ticket/pass/card.
Just make sure you have valid I.D.

I have been there - working at a low paying job early in my career. Many, many times I walked over an hour home from work because it was either bus fare or groceries and I didn’t want to get into debt. Rent is sky high in this city, wages don’t keep up. OP, I feel your pain. I hope things improve for you.

10 bucks a day to get to work is ridiculous esp if you earn min wage. public transit should be free imo. Wages here are a joke.

What judgmental %#^head comments.
If he doesn't have the money...he doesn't have the money.... doesn't matter HOW much he'd make at work. I've been there when I was young, for various reasons ( yes mostly to die with me) but still I was there. Spending bus money cause I was hungry.
Sorry you're there Dude, it's a horrible place to be... you'll learn... it'll get better.
