It make you less of a person, if you have leave a bad situation to go to an abuse shelter.
If you really have nowhere else to go.
No one else to turn too.
I heard those places are horrible, like prision.
Kinda Scared

It doesn't make you less of a person to take help when you need it. We all have times in our lives where we've needed to lean on the support of others. Part of being human.
There is no such thing

As an "abuse shelter". Sorry, but do some research about "those places" before writing about something you know nothing about. Those places save lives.

They can actually be nice... the one in my town is a big character house... better to leave now than risk staying in a bad situation

The Alternative

The alternative is to continue to be abused, and not be treated like a person, or live on the street. I'd take my chances with the shelter where I can get my life put back together.

They really helped me and it’s not as bad as you think. All walks of life are there in the same boat. I also met a lot of nice women going through the same thing. Don’t get abused any longer. Get help.
Help her?

The Abuser

is the one who should be made to leave the family home. One day this will be the case.
In the meantime you don't need to be ashamed. You did nothing wrong even though it must feel like you're being punished by being forced to flee.
"Those" places are supportive places with people who understand what you're going through. Please go to one. You will be happy you did.

Those shelters are there to help those experiencing domestic violence. There is NO shame in getting away from an abuser. Domestic abuse happens to every race, religion, and socioeconomic background.
My only suggestion is that you create a safety plan if you leave. The most dangerous time for abuse survivors is when they leave their abuser. This isn't to scare you, but to prepare you. You can refer to the links below for support and guidance. Good luck. You deserve to be treated with love, respect, and kindness. You are WORTHY of it. Also, speaking with a counselor would be beneficial for your healing. There are those that work on a sliding scale.
