Raise property taxes

I'm a homeowner and I pay property taxes. I'd be more than happy if property taxes went up to make Vancouver a better place. In fact, double 'em. I'd be totally cool with that. I am serious.

If you honestly think that paying more property tax will translate into a better city you are living in cloud cuckoo land. Government, at any level , never does anything in a cost effective manner. All they do is blow huge amounts of cash on bureaucracy and their inflated salaries. If anything taxes should be lowered and spending cut to all but essential services. The municipal gov't should be using our taxes for the basics like garbage pickup, water and sewage service and paving the streets. It shouldn't be in the business of trying to solve the world's problems and raising taxes in a never ending fleecing of taxpayers wallets.
Who the hell...

Getting the cost of housing under control would be as constructive as raising taxes. The costs here are ridiculous for a small unimportant city by international standards. I don't know how so many people have been tricked into living in this city with these costs. I have to assume they were desperate to escape shitty small town BC life and Vancouver was as good as it gets.
The problem

With that line of thinking is what have all the governments done with the property tax so far?
Not what the voters want them to,lobbyists and developers hit them up all the time and more than not they do the wrong thing.
Raising taxes isn't going to change that situation it's going to give them more of the taxpayers hard earned money to get re elected.
If Vancouver adopted Scandinavian ways of using taxpayer's money it might be worth it.
Finland is a good example to look at.
Sure

Cause you can default taxes till you sell your house..
Raisem what
See how much profit is left in your home when its time to sell.
Or you die and leave the house to your poor kids to deal with.
Can they afford higher taxes?
Selfish Statement man
People are barely affording morgage payments ,house insurance, land tax, condo fees, heat/ hydro payments now.
If you are so rich , I have an investment deal to chat about with you.
Land on the Moon Man.
Bahaha

I'm not rich. Wanna know how much I pay in property taxes? Less than $300/yr. That's it. No dodges or scams. That's how much it says on the paper I get from the city and that's how much I pay. How? I live in a tiny apartment in an undesirable part of town. It's enough and I am happy here.
You have to be

God help anyone that asks for their taxes to be raised. Raise property taxes, owners will raise rent, business owners will raise prices. They say the majority of Canadians are 200 dollars a month away from bankruptcy. Raise property taxes - put the majority of Vancouverites out on the street. Written by a renter that knows nothing of economy.
Erm

They already DID double them and nothing has changed or improved. Seriously, when I property taxes were literally half of what they were today vancouver had everything it has today. Ok, maybe now we have bike lanes, by that was at a loss of streets - nothing “new” was built.
More money equals more waste. We need to starve the beast for actual change
