A Trip.
So much to see and do.
Amazing camping /rest stops.. Nice people, wild animals
Beautiful sights, Tons of great food to sample.
Do you have a small motorhome?
Best way to cross Canada.
Unless you can afford to stop at all the 5 star hotels along the way..
Thats acceptable too...
Room Service. Bahaha

I loved my road trip across the country. My hope is to do one with no schedule or expected arrival times. Just enjoy the drive, spend time in different towns and cities, talk to people and take hold of the opportunities that come up in the moment(bon fire, camping, pub crawls etc)

That's how long I spent driving the TCH. Did a marathon of about six 14-hour days getting from Vancouver to Sydney, NS, took the ferry to NL, and from then on I wandered about the Rock, eventually took the boat back and headed West again. Great trip.

If I had it to do again, though, I'd fly to St John's, pick up a rental and ditch it in Montreal, maybe fly to Winnipeg and drive home from there. Either that or drive through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, WI, MN and ND, and cross back over the line North of Fargo. With the exception of the area around Lake Muskoka during the height of the fall colours, Ontario is miserable, and the Western half of it is another circle of hell. You couldn't pay me to make that drive between the Sault and Thunder Bay ever again, never mind spending any time amongst the jerks in TB.

But Atlantic Canada, Montréal, the prairie provinces - all are worth the trip. Though, to be honest, if I could afford it I'd just spend my time wandering around NL. Beautiful, fascinating place; great people. Rottenest part of the TCH if you care about your tires and suspension, though! Those nasty Winters do take a toll!

The only thing I got tired of was the running joke about the weather. Turns out that it was a particularly rainy Summer in Eastern Canada, and I seemed to catch the rotten weather wherever I went - so of course, whenever someone saw my BC plates, they just had to pass some comment about my "bringing the BC rain" with me. Well, rather that than snow, I guess.

Great trip. Do it if you can.

Hitchhiked it in 1970.

I love Canada however speaking from experience, It is not worth it unless you have unlimited time and funds.
I drove across Canada twice and will not renew the experience.

I posted above about the summer of 1970. Now why would anyone give me a thumbs-down for that? It was glorious, I was 17, hungry and sunburned and brokemost of the time and made it from Port Hardy to Cape Spear Nfld. and back to Montreal when my parents bought be a ticket home to BC. then my dad took me out to a Hastings Street bar for a beer.

I met a girl in Calgary I'm still friends with, lost my virginity to a sweet older girl in Montreal and have many other life-long memories from that trip.

Go for it ..enjoy the trip but watch out and beware of transports. Just drove 1300 miles to Manitoba. the supposed professional transport drivers are the one's to beware of. I've seen some pretty stupid driving by these drivers. My advice let them by in the passing lanes if available. And watch them drive off into the distance and good riddance to them. The pros are long gone now and it's the clowns that have taken over .
