Bike lanes

Why did we build them if cyclists continue to skirt them and ride on the road or sidewalk? They are specifically for you! You don't see cars avoiding the roads paved for them...

Why do all you pedestrians insist on walking on the bike paths and get belligerent when we point it out? You already have sidewalks. Do you do that on busy roads where cars drive? No. So how is THIS okay?

Survey says.

"You don't see cars avoiding the roads paved for them..."

Actually, yes you do.

Google Richmond drivers on U tube.

Who needs roads when you can drive over curbs, poles, bike lanes, animals, other vehicles, windows, garage doors etc..

No, but...

I regularly see cars blocking the bike lanes, and crosswalks, and alleys, etc. etc.

On a daily basis, I ask some idiot riding their bike on the sidewalk if they are sacred or just lazy.

So, OK...

... the bike gutters are sort of too narrow and in some cases inconvenient, especially if you have 3+ bikes travelling together, going in a single file is not really appropriate, cars can wait behind.

The one on 10th by the Hospital, for example, is far too narrow, and it is to be avoided. It's also not a straight path, so you're trading a straight, smooth grade on the road for this wobbly uneven grade.

The bike paths are suggestions for cyclists who don't feel confident enough to ride on the road, cyclists are allowed in the traffic-area of roads, the purpose to bike paths has never been to segregate cyclists from cars, it has always been to provide a safer atmosphere for less experienced cyclists.

Your destination (ie; your home) is far off from a bike route and you end up having to venture down different avenues?

That feeling of relief when...

I totally agree. Where I live it’s a daily occurrence to see multiple people walking on the road when there’s a pedestrian walkway 10 feet away that takes the exact same too. They also walk all over the bike paths and get belligerent when you point that out or refuse to get out of their way. There seems to be a big problem with entitled pedestrians who believe that no matter where they are, they’re always right.
