Blessed

Getting my iud was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself. Seriously, I no longer carry the burden of the risk of pregnancy, and I'm no longer held down by the shackles of a period. I feel as free as can be. This is what I imagine men must feel like!

You still have a piece of plastic, wire and hormones inside you that you're incapable of removing yourself without causing serious harm.
Don't get me wrong, IUDs are great (I have one too), but don't minimize what your body has to go through in order to achieve this kind of freedom.

Nice to feel blessed with something

Can you imagine what it's like to be cursed by a life without love?

Um Ok

To each their own. Although I don't think I'd be too happy about having a "safe" foreign object inside my body. I know someone who developed osteoporosis because they had this. Yay

@notquite
Copper IUDs do not require hormones. The ones I'm most familiar with, have none.
The copper metal itself is a very efficient contraceptive, making hormones redundant (and potentially problematic because adverse reactions). Some IUDs are also frameless, so minus lots of the plastic. I looked into it for my current situation. And if they ever offer an equivalent for dudes, I'll get one, too. Just to be sure. Bring the pain.
Copper is a kind of miracle metal for germicidal and microbicidal uses.
I'm always pleased to see brass fixtures in public bathrooms (or any bathrooms). Big fan of bronze, too. Steampunk much superior to the modern stone-plastic-steel-everything aesthetic. Stainless steel is also very germ-friendly, making the "touch fixture, then wash hands, then touch fixture" sequence rather weird, to my mind.

Still a good idea to use PrEP and vaccines (HPV and anything else on offer). There's now an experimental chlamydia vaccine, too, and I'm hopeful for more soonish. Maybe we can all be more adventurous in a decade or so.

Huh?

Probably because yours is copper, the hormonal ones dramatically lighten them:)

@And.... THAT has made my morning. Thank you!

Naw

I used one, my body actually tried to spit it out, twice, it made my periods worse, the strings that hang down chafed non-stop (I was told I'd get use to it, I didn't) it also made sex kind of difficult so I got rid of it after three months. I know other women who had them and thought they were great, to each their own I guess. Birth control pills were a much, much better choice for me.
