I put on the kettle..

Sometimes I have panic attacks in my sleep. My friend advised if it happens, to do something normal. So I get up and boil the kettle, watching it as it boils, its how I feel most nights. Boiling up ready to explode. Once it boils, its calm again, a bit like my head and heart. I go back to sleep...

Distraction is effective

It makes sense that a normal distraction helps get out of the panic loop. Boiling water, sure! Sometimes I turn on the TV as if I'm going to start a show at 4am. I also have a family member that I can phone at any hour. (It's mutual, I return the favour). We talk about something other than the panic attack, then even one minute in, my mind is taken elsewhere and the rapid heartbeat goes down.

Panic attacks in your sleep? Is that what used to be called a nightmare or bad dream? Panic attack while sleeping. Ok. Hmm.
