I’m not a good dweeb

I hang out with left leaning nerds but the only problem is that they think I am being offensive when I am simply discussing their ideas critically (while trying to agree with them). Is this education in 2019? Why is everyone such a political douche nowadays?

Umbrage is the measurement of conviction. Your calm, rational, skeptical evaluations don't cut it as far as showing that OMG IT IS A CRISIS THE WORST EVER LITERAL NAZIS AAAHHHHH BURN IT. I feel that play acting a certain amount of hysteria lubricates social interaction with these people, who aspire to purity in lieu of, let's say, wit, or power.

Problem Is

They think their opinions are facts.
They also think that anyone with an opinion different them,is personally attacking them.
They also would rather believe some fake news if it suits their opinion, rather than looking it up.
Case in point: Youtube channel goes to colleges and reads Obama quotes to them, tells them it's Trump and gets their reaction. It's always negative, and embarrassing when told the truth.

The Age of Reason is over, and a new milieu is upon us.
Feeling is now considered MUCH more important than thinking, and most people are oriented thus, anyway. Personality profiling has shown exactly that, overwhelmingly, for the last 50 years.
So now, social consensus and popular biases agree with sentimental bias (instead of viewing it with some skepticism, as was previously the norm). And also with self-indulgence and impulsivity.
It's the perfect storm of visceral reactivity - thus why "social" media is so universally successful. We have developed the ideal vehicle for our worst, most intemperate traits, at least until we master telepathy. And the elites - our corporate and political masters - have made good use of it.
Also why we have so many tyrannical, maniacal populists in power at the same time. Too coincident and ubiquitous to be accidental. More like a symptom. Humans take everything to extremes, and the pendulum has clearly swung in the other direction.
So far, the new millennium is The Age of Unreason. Historically consistent - our species has these spasms of madness in the first decades of most centuries. So far, we've had about 20 years of continuous war, in parallel, geographically diverse conflicts, often with three "sides" or more (as all good wars do).
It's a pervasive, chronic, recurring fever that afflicts humanity. Buckle up. It'll get worse before it gets better.

If you'd like to see an eerily prescient and very perceptive, if appallingly brutal, metaphor for all this, the Japanese classic "Snowpiercer" is instructive. Perfect dweeb material.

the left will never be unified because they will always be too busy calling each other out, being self righteous and petty. Meanwhile the right has never been more united and organized.

Kind of ironic the supposedly anti-establishment left and its supporters have become the faction so quick to quell “dissent.”

Snowpiercer is a French graphic novel adopted by a Korean film maker staring an international cast of actors. Other than that, I must say your post is entirely accurate. The species not only pushes itself to the edge but sometimes over before it can make the correction. Sadly, climate change and a world war will be it's result. Then we'll get back on track for 70 to 80 years. How that looks we can only speculate.

I stand corrected, right you are.
I don't remember where I read that "Snowpiercer" was Japanese, but it certainly felt that way. French, not so much...
For ambience, savagery and generalized pathology, it's more like "Hagakure", and utterly unlike Camus (for example).
