Labels

Just because I'm an overweight, single, middle-aged woman with feminist/humanist ideals doesn't make me a lesbian. I don't understand why I get mislabelled so frequently. So, what - if I'm not attached to a man by a certain age, I must be gay? What if I'm divorced? Widowed? Is it my weight? I consider myself an LGBTTQ ally so it's less about the 'lesbian' aspect and more about the assumptions people make, with little or no thought or evidence, that annoys me.

Ignore the narrow mindedness

People make incredibly stupid judgements, even relatively “woke” people. Years ago, a software engineer made the assumption (and told me) that he thought I was a lesbian, BECAUSE I RODE MY BIKE TO WORK. Wtf? I guess you’ll never know why people think you’re gay (age, weight etc) but you definitely get to learn how dumb some people are.

"Women in comfortable shoes"

"Almost, but not quite, gay" is just too much of a mouthful (heh, see what I did there?) and nobody has time for that. Easier to just say "gay".
Aahhh, now I'm nostalgic for back in the day, when the girls would judge all the females at the venue, and then play "Lesbian or Midwestern?" Good times.
...so, you'd be "Midwestern", then? Butch, plaid, flannel, bandanna/do-rag or toque, cowboy or Timberland-type boots, buzz cut? Ride a chopper? At least a dozen piercings in various places? Affliction or Ed Hardy style of ink, preferably somewhere obvious like knuckles, top of breastbone or around the neck? Face tats and scarification are less common, unfortunately.
Also helps if you dip, or have a thing for really noxious cigars.
I can see where some people may be confused.
(Note: all this is satire because stereotypes are very archaic)

I'll say it simple just as a man does

If you're one of those third wave feminists, and not a real feminist, no guy would ever want to be around someone for any length of time that carries and ideology that's openly hostile to the very natural existence of his gender.
Personally I don't mind a woman that's got some reserve fat cells stored up just in the off chance that there is a societal collapse, and food becomes scarce. All I care about is being with someone that treats me with the equal care, and respect, that I treat her with. Which means no subscribing to an ideology that demands she does the opposite of care and respect of me. I'd skip on that unneeded bullshit in my life, and in any relationship. Who the hell wouldn't? I know there are plenty better women out there, and I don't need to settle for being treated like crap because I am what I am, which is a man.

Maybe take a self portrait

And have a long, hard, objective look at yourself.
Then look up google images for diesel dyke. If you match-or sort of match- you can't blame people for thinking that.
I'm sure if you saw a flamboyant guy strutting around in pink shorts, cowboy boots, and a black leather vest- you'd think he was gay.
Something about a pot and kettle comes to mind

Maybe...

Men want fun. You don't sound like any fun at all, to be honest.

I'm a skinny feminine guy

It's just the way my body & mannerisms are yet people assume that I'm a gay guy, I mean I love women, but people make frikking stupid assumptions about others based on looks & appearances

get this

if they make idiot assumptions then they are exposing themselves for what they are however gently educating people makes for a more global existence of harmonious understanding. definitely worth the patience it takes to get there.

I don't understand why you have this problem. What other people think of you... OR even what they "label" you is none of your business. Just get on with life being yourself! :-)

It does make a difference because what they ASSume about you (& say to other people) affects how they (& the other people) treat you.
