I live in a co-ed house with three guys and three girls. There is one guy that would knock on my door at weird hours of the day or night and just walk right in. One of my girl friends said he probably does this to get a glimpse of me, unconscious, in bed, in my underwear. He also is grossly messy in the washroom; he leaves his damp towel on the floor, hangs his sweaty workout clothes on the shower curtains, leaves his toothpaste open on the counter, and leaves the toilet seat always covered in dirt marks and pee. He also likes to play music loud while studying. If it wasn't for our house being so close to campus, one of my roommates able to car-pool us, and the rent being manageable, I would move out asap. I guess life likes to throw us curve balls. [and to those that would comment and tell me just talk to him...I have. We also talk as "family" about boundaries within the house].

Housing Crisis Vancouver

Get used to it. Co-op housing will haunt you well into your adult hood. Housing is way to expensive

Install a lock

The Lil latch ones with a key lock. They're five bucks from home hardware and as easy to install as screwing 5 screws. Do not wait for it to get worse, stay safe!!

"I live in a co-ed house with three guys and three girls. "

Story starts out sounding like a PG goofball comedy with house full of coeds and hi-jinks ensue.

"my girl friends said he probably does this to get a glimpse of me, unconscious, in bed, in my underwear."

Story immediately takes a hard turn into dark, R rated thriller with stalker-ish roommate.

We've all seen how this movie ends, OP. It ends badly. I hope you consider an intervention more drastic than "talk as family." I mean, he keeps trying to get into your room while you're sleeping? WTF.

Start locking your bedroom door

lock it up

I was in a similar situation when I was in uni a few years back; I also live in a co-ed house with a male roommate who had "boundary issues" and was an inconsiderate slob. It got serious one night when my female roommate (who he had a crush on) woke up to find him in her room, sitting on the end of her bed, shirtless and drunk. She yelled and woke up the entire house. He said he'd "just wanted to talk" (Half naked at 4AM? Right, dude.). She moved out shortly afterwards but he refused to leave the house or acknowledge that it was his behaviour that caused her to leave.

Please install a lock on the inside of your bedroom door and lock yourself in your room at night. A simple chain lock is easy to install and inexpensive - any hardware store will have one. A hook-style lock isn't adequate because it can be breached very easily. This guy already knows he's overstepping your boundaries by waltzing into your room unannounced - don't give him the opportunity to escalate his behaviour. If he objects to your lock, tell him that he made you feel unsafe and that's not on you, that's all on him. Maybe then he'll back off (but I doubt it. He'll probably try to gaslight you.) Best of luck and stay safe!!

Why don't you...

lock your room? If it has no lock, you can install one on your door: not too expensive or hard to do yourself. Rooms in shared housing should always have a lock. You should also agree on rules with your other roommates. Also, how about anonymous voting on who gets to stay next term, and look for new roommates?

Locks are needed

Get a lock on your door. In old rooming houses, locks were on all the bedroom doors. Enough said

Well that just sounds creepy AF. My advice is to get a lock for the door, or put a sign on the door saying do not enter under penalty of death. And in regard to the dirty laundry in the shared bathroom, Bag it up and throw it out like the garbage it is. He’ll stop doing it Pretty quickly.
