Still crossing my fingers

That democracy in Hong Kong wins. It seriously sucks to have pro-communists protesting in the streets of Vancouver against democracy. That's the last I want to see that. Yay Hong Kong democratic souls! I love you!

Pro-communist? In Canada? Assuredly not.
At least, not out loud and not yet. Give it a decade or two, for the youngest three generations to really get going. THEN you'll see some "pro-communist" protests. It's a docile culture, but they VERY MUCH want to be taken care of. In the absence of permanent helicopter parents, a nanny state will have to do.
The conversations around housing, inequality, crime, homelessness, private property, zoning and "corporate responsibility", have been most instructive. The collectivists haven't finished their doctrine, but once they arrive at The Solution, watch out. Everything will be a crown corporation after they're done. And everything will be free, and everyone will be equal.
Briefly. And then once again, some will be more equal than others.
The lessons of history must be relearned anew every century, it seems. Best absorbed when lubricated by death and suffering.
I hope to be far away, long before that. Or dead.
Hong Kong. Heh. They have less than 30 years before the treaty expires anyway. And then they'll be absorbed into the PRC. HK is a sideshow, or maybe a pretext or casus belli. Nothing more.
