Bad citizen

I have the worst work ethic of pretty much anyone I've ever met. I hate work and always have. Any kind of work. You could name 1000 jobs and I would have no interest in any of them. I've managed to hold down jobs most of my life but they have been entry level retail stuff that you can kind of coast through. I realize this is a bad way to operate but I feel like it is too ingrained to change. I wish I could be a 'hard worker' like the world tells me I should be.

That you vote for (liberals,NDP) whomever promises to dole out more of the taxpayers money,to give to people such as you.
And the gov't wonders why everyone cheats on taxes and deals cash as much as possible.

ha, sounds like my philosophy.
i believe most "jobs" are created by people who don't want to do them, that's why they pay you.

Why is it that if someone doesn't want to put in a full 40 hour week they are considered bums leeching off the system by idiots like "I'm Guessing". People should be able to live off of a 20 hour week, if others can live well off of 40. I worked 16 hour weeks for years with 20 weeks PAID vacation per year...but I had to move to Asia to do it.

Hopefully...

You find purpose in something and get paid for it; or be your own entrepreneur. I don't like working either, I was listening to a podcast with someone talking about the history of how 9-5 work started; no one wanted to work; people were forced to work in factories and clocks were placed in the centre of town so people wouldn't be late for work. A 40hr work week isn't healthy, Sweden is 4 day work weeks. I don't know how you coast in retail; retail is intense and I never want to go back. If you're happy coasting and can get basic needs met; that's great. But if it's a survival mechanism just to get through life; I dunno. And being a 'hard worker' is bs; work smarter always not harder; that's called burnout. Keep doing what you're doing; if you feel free in what you do; keep going.

If there's a system someone will game it. There are millions of Canadian dollars in off shore accounts around the world. It wouldn't matter if there was a flat tax of 5% for everyone in BC or 25%. The rich or the poor, it doesn't matter. Some people are just unethical and will dodge taxes.

I can relate, I hate work, always have, I have been working since I was 13 years old and have pretty much concluded that it sucks. I confessed this to a friend once, told her, if I received a huge inheritance or won the lottery I would stop working entirely. She was horrified. That's how ingrained this whole stupid "work ethic" thing is. Even if you have means, your only value as a human being is measured by how much you're willing to work (Well, poor people are anyway). I know a guy who likes to brag about how he only sleeps 4 hours a night because he has three jobs...Yeah that sounds fantastic. On his final day he can feel proud of how he worked himself to death. As for the person who made the comment about "living on taxpayer's money" almost everyone I know who has this attitude will happily collect their EI cheques when they're out of work and are the first to run to Work Safe to get medical compensation when they get a cut on their pinky. So give me a break. I believe we should at least be able to support ourselves and should work to do it, but nobody told me I had to like it. What sticks in my craw is this idea that we have to work in shitty situations or kill ourselves trying to work multiple jobs because that is the socially acceptable ideal and if we don't love and live by this attitude, we will be judged for it.

You are not alone

This is me completely. I have absolutely no work ethic. I have a good "professional" job, but just do not care about it. I'm here to get paid and enjoy the rest of my life. I've never enjoyed working, never wanted to work and am not cut out for the working world. I get paid the same no matter how much or little I do, so just do the bare minimum and leave at the end of the day.

Have you considered starting a business?

Have you ever thought about starting a business? It could be cleaning, merchandising, asembling furniture or dealing with waste? Consider doing something no wants to do. Otherwise, learn and master a game with decent prize money.
