Don't poke the bear

I feel like I have decades of repressed anger that has been making itself more visible lately. I am worried I will snap at someone who doesn't deserve it. For ages I have been the 'I don't get angry' guy but now I think that was all a lie. It's slowly bubbling up. I've just been pushing it down and one of these days it's going to get out one way or the other.

Will mean when or if it dose, it's all on you. That is to say this confession takes away any if every bit of reasonable understanding one may seek after such an event.

what's angering you? maybe you need to get some counseling, obviously you are aware of is an issue and "warning" us you're ready to snap.....that doesnt absolve you of any responsibility for your potential actions...

Isn’t usually a root emotion. It comes from somewhere. Dig further.

Been there

I’ve been where you are. It can get messy. My unsolicited advice is to get help discovering the story as to why you pushed it down. We usually can’t write the narrative, objectively, alone. Usually it was or is to protect ourselves from emotional or physical rejection of a caregiver. All humans experience this but some rejection can be to the extent that it is neglect. That’s when all the fun starts.

I bring the stick. You bring the rage. The po will bring charges.
A couple of decades ago, I worked on a tech project at a maximum security prison. It made a huge impression, in the worst way.
The curious thing is that the inmates were mostly the stupid, the incompetent and the unlucky. And if you don't arrange an intervention, and spontaneously lose your sh*t instead, that would make you all three. Guess where you'd be going?
Also, discrimination against convicts is pervasive, especially the violent offenders. So even when (if?) you get out, your life will continue to suck, possibly for always.
And you might pick up a chronic disease or three, maybe even some superbug(s). They told me the "intake" infection rate is almost 50 percent. These aren't the most prudent, responsible people...
Competent criminals get minimum security or house arrest at worst, assuming they're ever caught. Doesn't sound like you.

Sort out your crap, before it sorts you out.

“Holding onto anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one that gets burned.”

Don't "vent." Anger never vents, like a pressure cooker...anger feeds on anger, it never stops. Suppressing is good, for a while, but you need some other techniques too.

I recommend physical training. Doesn't matter if it is yoga, boxing, or shopping at IKEA but if it gets your heart rate up enough to make you sweat and you do it every other day, or whenever you can, it is going to give you endorphins (good for mood), strength (confidence), and distraction (easier than meditation for flipping the switch).

Maybe there is something you have been wanting to do for yourself but you have not had the time. Well, now you know. You have to make the time. Recreation isn't a waste of time; playing, and being active, is what your body was made to do, and we make ourselves sick by getting too tight and shallow breathing.

This might seem very woo-woo and hippy, but it really is good shit. Give it a shot.
