Regrets

The worst thing I’ve ever done in my life is give a fuck what other people think of me.

Emotional Predators.

I believe people sense that in a person and take advantage of it. There are so many ways another person can use a person and preying on your insecurities to give themselves a bump in their self-esteem is one of them.

You nailed it

Number one cause of grief and pain in life.

It depends

Such a blanket statement.
If it's people you care about who care about you, their opinion counts. Sometimes they call us on our BS. You need that. We all do to make us better people.
Advice: before you get upset or mad, ask yourself honestly this one question: is it true?
If it is, you can't get upset. Accept it or work on it. And if it's not true? Let it go. You know the truth.
The biggest emotional reaction is really your ego resisting the truth that the person calling out our crap, criticizing us, is right. None of us are perfect and it doesn't mean you're a zero. It's just one area of life needing work. Once you get that, once you accept that, the ego calms down. And thank the person for pointing out what you were blind to. It's an ultimately good service to aid in self-awareness that benefits you.
Getting to that ideal perfection...which is impossible...is part of life. That is, growth is part of living. There's no purpose if there's nothing left to learn or improve. But ease up, because we don't always get there. Or we only do it in some parts of life. Like nature, the beauty is in the imperfection. It's all around you.
Accept and work with this, and you'll be fine.

Thank you!

@itdepends
Brilliant. Among the best I've read here in years.

Perhaps a more useful version of this post, would swap "strangers" in for "other people", as strangers are usually judgier and more reactive to one's dissonance, flaws and weirdness. Friends would be more patient and accepting (one hopes).
The comment from @itdepends would still apply, but much less so.

Thanks Charon

Screw them and forge your own path! The world needs inspiration.

I wish someone I know

Could give herself this pep talk and follow through.

Why am I not surprised?

If you down voted this, you are a less intelligent human. Giving a fuck what others think of you is a complete waste of time and utterly pointless. Stop giving into insecurity, get out there and be bold!
