Dumb Luck

Sometimes making it 'big' is just through dumb luck. I met my husband online 14 years ago. We both had entry level positions making 35k a year. He rose up the ranks quickly and now makes 500k a year. We live a very comfortable life. But I didn't sweat and toil to get here. I know I'm really lucky and am very grateful. But I know it was just dumb luck I met a really talented guy.

I want to put my artistic talents to work for me so I can be my own boss and work from home, instead of destroying my body for someone else, and for a crummy retirement pension that wont likely be there when I retire.

What happened to your career?

Both of you started out OK. Why did he rise up the ranks and not yourself? (Granted, it can be harder for women, it depends). If I hadn't been able to do it myself (I did manage to at least reach the 6 figure mark over time), I would have stayed single so I would never, ever have to be supported by a man. Otherwise, they own us and lord it over us, endlessly - typically with no allowances for the huge bio burden of pregnancies and birthing, and all the responsibilities around home and family.

This reads like one of those generic "I make $35K from home..." bot comments.

BTW, i’m gay. I met an awesome guy, and his career blossom. I makes 125k so not too shabby. But in Vancouver, making my salary is barely middle class. Basically, I wanted to confess that having drive, talent, determine and work ethic is not always enough. Sometimes, it’s just stupid, dumb luck. Now, I better not fuck it up!

financially set for life now...even if your marriage tanks. I'd bet if the roles were reversed the same would not be true.
