The journey

Six months ago I left my old job that sucked the life out of me. I shut off my cellphone so that none of my coworkers would call to ask me what had happened. Got myself a new haircut and shaved off my beard. Then I stopped eating fatty foods and lost a lot of weight. Alcohol and cannabis were my go to when I was depressed at work but they just made me much worse, so I cut them both completely out of my life.

... non-profit, feel much better, healthier. Now visiting them (it's a very old institution...can't really ever leave Mom completely...) is like visiting a mental ward.

They're all violently angry, think it will fix the world.

for cutting out cannabis.
People have cured cancer using cannabis oil. (look up Phoenix Tears/Rick Simpson Oil, or Dr Christina Sanchez)
There is more incident of lung cancer in non-smokers than there is in people who only smoke cannabis. (look up - Dr Donald Tashkin)

Sure, there are people who become couch-locked on constant cannabis consumption (specifically indica strains) but sativas will have the opposite effect, and there is such a thing as moderation.

Leaving a shitty job for a much better one is like being a flower that grows out of a pot of dirt.

I don't think they were trying to convince others into lifestyle choices. Just getting out what worked for them. Everyone's journey is different. I too left poisonous workplaces/people behind. It can take years to recover. The good news is once you've been in one soul sucking relationship, they're all the same, so you get good at reading the signs.
