Losing hope

I’m a single mom and was laid off a couple of months ago. I’m behind on my bills and got my first ei cheque a whopping $300. I can’t get my ex to help out because of course I chose a poor excuse of a father who refuses to step up. I wait for the system to do its part after I put in the papers but of course they are behind. I go to the food bank and am grateful for the people who donate and it helps but isn’t enough. I go to the library daily to apply for jobs and still nothing. I see other single parents struggling and they are working. I keep wondering when things will get better, I try to think optimistically so I don’t put my fear and anxiety onto my child because that’s what we do, we try to shield them from the hardships in life. But I feel like I’m losing hope that things will get better, and that scares me.

How about a roommate?

Maybe find a roommate to help share some of the expenses?

Dear mum

You will make it.
If you need to try and do some cleaning jobs for extra cash until you get out of the hole.
If you have proof that your hydro will be shut off contact the ministry for emergency money.
Try and join a community moms club and youll find mums and dads who stuggle with exactly what you are going through, you are not alone when you think of the tens of thousands laid off and who apply for e.i.
Do your best. Take a part time job at a lower rate of pay.. I know it sucks but its a sense of pride and responsibility you achieve. This isnt about you anymore as you said you have a child. You will do what you have to too make ends meet. Hugs and sending you support. Dont forget to ask for help.

Temping

It's scary being in a situation where you don't know where your next pay check is coming from and even more when you have a kid. My Mom was a single mom for a while and I know how stressful it was for her as she told me many years later.
Do you have some admin skills to get work from a temp agency? They often can find you a job within a day or two depending on your skills and schedule. I think they can even offer work in non-administration jobs if you aren't computer savvy. There are quite a few WorkBC centres in Vancouver that offer free help with resumes and finding a job and they are quite resourceful. I hope you find something and I'm rooting for you.

Have faith - Meditate, Pray & focus on the good - You're already half way there by being hopeful. Visualize what you want to have and happen & forgive the circumstances. Keep this momentum - you will have what you desire! Teach your kid this focus - they have this natural ability let it flourish. All the best!

Try jobs on Craigslist. Maybe even the ondemand kind. 1 day of cleaning or admin work.

Please don’t give up! It’s going to be okay. Something is going to happen for you soon. I too have been unemployed for 6 months and have a child. It’s very hard in this city at times. If you ever want to talk I’m at anjjna@yahoo.com let me know your child’s age, and I may have a few things to pass on to them if you’d like. I took a minimum wage job just to scrape by. Could you try to take something temporary to supplement the ei?
