Marooned

I have never really felt at home in any of my apartments. It's hard to feel at home in a grey building surrounded by a bunch of strangers. Or in a basement suite where you live under a family. When I am out at night I look longingly into the windows of houses, and they like so cozy. I wish I had something or somewhere or someone in my life that felt like home.

Maroon is not a homey color. Something you'll find in a preschool.
Try brighter, lighter tones.
Not grey, obviously. Unless it's fifty shades, oooh-lla-llaaaa...

Snark aside, you'll never be at home among strangers. "Home" is persons, not places. You need a pack to call home - "the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives."
A house can be even more isolating and lonely, if the people in it aren't your pack.
But if you want property for the money, so you can flip it and be flush with the proceeds, then I get it. That is The Canadian (and also American) Way.

Was tormented for years by the family above. Then I moved to the top floor over them. That's when tapdancing really took off

It's not that cozy...

... I have a house, and a condo, actually, but I don't have a wife or kids, so it's not so cozy. Home is where the family is. As I reach midle age, so sad. No family.

Is it really the apartment...

or is it your life or mood that's grey?
There are many ways to make a condo feel cozy such as repainting, adding houseplants and beautiful accents, decorating the balcony, etc. I live in a condo with my SO and it does feel like home to me as it's an expression of who we are and it's full of beautiful things and memories. A house is where the soul is.

Home is a feeling....

.... We currently rent, during our family transition. I have my sons,
(no husband very soon), but we are very happy. They make me feel like I am home, wherever we go. Family is huge.
